I have a many engines from the early 2000's that are TMCC that I run temorarily with a Postwar ZW and a Cab 1 in command mode, but a few take off when I ease into the throttle at top speed. My Lionel UP Dash 9's (18286) in particular do this. Any ideas? I did engine resets with the Aux1 code, but I cannot run them at low speeds.

Any Ideas?

What thread John?

You posted this in TMCC & Legacy.

Lionel TMCC Engine Takes off Fast in Command Mode

As I said there, that model doesn't have cruise, so there is no magnet ring to shatter.  This is more likely an electronic failure.

I also asked if this happens immediately upon applying power or when you crack the CAB1 throttle in command mode.  Different failures, depending on which symptom.

Set the stall speed.... Set the stall speed... Take the cover off the bottom of the Cab-1 and press set... scroll down the speed and press set again.   (I think, it's been awhile)

It's so easy to try, I just don't understand why you wouldn't  give it a shot.

I suppose the problem could also be  Antenna or base related...

Does it take off as soon as it gets power, or when you first move the throttle knob?

This one is old enough to have the single board solution.  It's likely this LCRU2 has a problem, not much else there.

First stop would be to make SURE the antenna is properly connected.  If it's not receiving TMCC signals, it'll take off at full speed.

It also could be something simple.. Seems you have more than this engine taking off

I mentioned holding your hand over the engine and trying to set the stall speed but Maybe your command base is not working as it should.

Does the command base  wall adaptor have 3 prongs and is it plugged into a 3 prong wall outlet?

It also  could  be an engine  antennae problem.

The problem with the Dash 9 was the magnetic ring. As for the NYC Switcher, I tried all the resets and holding my hand over the engine. As soon as I turn the the throttle knob, it takes off fast. In conventional, it is fine.

The power for the base is 3 prong. And I have no other issues with anymore locos. The engine was mint in the box.
