We maxed out our space and me and the boys are working on a 7x12 layout. We would like to use O72 on the outer loop. We have several O72 switches hoping to make a small yard somewhere. We are looking to have 2 lines so 2 trains can run at once. On a budget, so using Tubular O gauge track. ANyone have any photos of layouts of similar size? Thanks

7 feet is too wide to reach across. Why not do an around the walls with access in the middle? Think in terms of 30 inch wide shelves instead of tables. You get a lot more room for track that way.

Yes it is, but you don't need to reach across, only reach to the middle, which is 3.5 feet (42"). And some of us have longer arms then others, so that's a non issue.

3.5 feet is quite a reach...for me anyway....my current layout is 6'6" wide which puts me at 3' 3" reach and it's not easy...currently looking to change that....while is does not sound like much ...try it out......your arms may be much longer then mine
True Sinclair. But if one decides to go with a dog bone type layout with 072+ and larger curves. 6'-8' wide end loop tables are the norm with access hatches if needed. The only way to negate big curve diameters is to have the layout run around the walls, often with around the walls you have duckunders or lift out sections. Whatever works for you.
