Had to replace two smoke elements that were burned out in these two engines. The 1666 has the optional steam chest smoke coming out the side. The units smoke fairly well when hooked up directly to a transformer, but once installed on the engine, they put out hardly, or any smoke at all. I bought the elements from Robert Thompson, but they look just like Lionel parts, rather than Marx.

I ran a wire from the ground on the smoke body, to the chassis for a better connection, and it helped considerably. I've heard there are differences in voltage requirements for these elements, and I'm thinking maybe the elements I bought require more voltage than these motors can put out?  And if so, are there elements out there I can purchase that take less voltage, and perhaps make more smoke?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, as I really don't want to rewire these smoke units just to get more voltage to them.
