Menards Starting to stock Christmas Merchandise!

Hoping to get my Menards rebates in the mail soon to take advantage of seasonal inventory starting to roll into my local Menards store (:

Way too early for this stuff for me but for those of you who enjoy an early start, have at it.

Of course I needed to go back to Menards and pickup another part for a project I was working on. I took some photos of the train aisle progress. These are the stock locations sheets looks like some interesting things!

Red owl store? What's that!

The SKU is not loaded yet, but I am guessing it's the old Red Owl "grocery" store that has a history with Menard's

3 October and Walmart already has all of its Christmas stuff all out and fully stocked. Its not even Halloween yet.

The Red Owl Store is a Grocery Store that was around in the 1950's.

We had a couple of Red Owl stores in Sioux City back in the day.

Anyone know what the Train Depot is?  Is it the Woodland Scenics one that came out last year or so?

You folks who have a Menard's store where you live, pictures of their train items would be appreciated. Many people on this forum do not live near a Menard's store. Therefore, you are our best source of information. I can a sure you, what ever information you can supply us with, would be greatly appreciated.

Red Owl was once a grocery store chain that operated in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and North and South Dakota. The company dates back to 1922. The first store was in Rochester, MN. Its last owner, Supervalu Inc., began phasing them out in the 1980s. One still exists in Green Bay, WI. There were more than 400 stores at one time.

I lived in Rochester for eight years and in Minnesota for 22 years, so I am quite familiar with them.

Department 56 in 2002 released a ceramic building depicting a Red Owl. It was retired in 2003. Naturally, I had to have it. Here's mine, heavily populated with figures of all sorts. Looking forward to seeing the Menards version.

Just last year and still available. 

Red Owl!  Love it.  They were in Minnesota too.

The Red Owl store can be placed near the railroad tracks with the Soo Line and Wisconsin Central freight cars and locos.

So it looks as if, in the stores, they sell those WWII commemorative boxcars separately?

I stopped by Menards again today and took some more photos. Still a lot of open spaces. They did have a row of box cars and tank cars all different. Nothing new as far as I can tell. They have the flats with the tanks also.

I have a feeling, though I could be wrong, that Mark the Menards Guy will announce the Red Owl store here first (probably without any teasers since the owl is out of the bag) before it shows up on the shelves. It apparently will be priced at about $100.

I don't think I have seen the green Burlington Northern flatcar with two yellow bobcat-type things before (on far-right).   I see that it, and the two items to the left of it, are packed in the old-style retail bubble display wit the simulated track base.   Perhaps the BN flat is older & has run out of stock on line?

Yes this Menards had some old stock stored in their seasonal storage area. Here's a photo of the leftovers from last year in that storage area..

Wow, Frank... in that old shot is what appears to be a completely different Burlington Northern flatcar, that one with a single dozer.  And I thought I was paying attention all of this time!

I went back today to buy a Power & Light building and A Rosie the Riveter special boxcar. I also was checking for that BN flat but it was gone and most of the boxcars also, the word is out .

All my rebate checks are gone .

I had to stop in my local Menards this morning for some things and to check on their progress on stocking these items.  It was really looking good with a lot of buildings, 1:48 vehicles, and RR cars.  Big presence of H.O. buildings too.

The Red Owl store isn't in yet, but I saw the shelf tag for it with it's price $99.00.  I am very anxious to see these as I too have many memories of these stores.  I used to deliver bakery products to the one that was in Emmetsburg, IA and was located right beside the Rock Island RR tracks.  Brings back a lot of great memories.

One thing that raised an eyebrow was item 21, the "Medium Flatcar Master Pack", number 279-3570. That SKU doesn't show up on the website. One thing I hadn't realized before is that there are now three sizes of flatcar--the 10.5" seen in the 24-flatcar pack, the 14.75" 'scale' version, and the wooden-deck 11.5" flat that first appeared with the Shell tanker. I wonder if this in-between flatcar is going to be offered by themselves the way the 10'5" flatcars can be had. There's no mention of what they're carrying.

(color me interested if that's the case)

The whole isle is dedicated to trains with an endcap. 

First three pictures of buildings are all HO

There is still a lot of open space on the shelves.  I don't know if more is yet to come.  I did notice a shortage of track.  Overall very nice for you O and HO guys...now if Mendards would only do S....

I stopped by Menards today and they stocked some more BN flats with the skid loaders heres a better photo
