A few months ago we added DCS to our layout in passive mode.  I followed the wiring suggestions in Barry's book and we have good signal around the layout -- never lower than an 8, typically 9 or 10.

One issue that has arisen is when using the microphone in the DCS handheld.  My son loves it and he is often running his Railking SD70 with PS3.  Often what will happen is that when he uses the mic feature, the locomotive will lose connection with the control and become unresponsive.  The fix is to shutdown the power to the track and restart the DCS TIU and handheld.  Then on restart all is good.

The locomotives we have (2 allegheny PS3 locos, and a PS2 GG1) all otherwise run perfectly, so I am a bit puzzled.  All these locomotives also are susceptible to this issue.

I am not that concerned other than the fact the kids like to use the mic to make announcements and love the DCS handheld, so I want to see them have full use of the stuff they like.  Any insights would be appreciated.  Thanks.

RAL,

From The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition, page 163:

All DCS Remotes Lose Control of All Engines

If a PS2 (or PS3) engine is selected in the DCS Remote's Engine Control Screen and the External Mic is on or the Mic button on that DCS Remote is pressed to activate the DCS Remote's built-in microphone, all DCS Remotes will become unable to issue commands to any PS2 (or PS3) engines. This is due to an undocumented "feature" that is present in all releases of DCS.

Once the External Mic and the built-in microphone in the DCS Remote is turned off, normal operation of all DCS Remotes is restored.

This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

Thanks Barry but the microphone is no longer on after the button is released, so I don't follow what you are saying.  I will play with it some more.
