Scott, if it was me and I was a little gun shy..... I would take half the engine and do a factory reset one at a time.  After I did the first I would test it on my remote CDR to see that it took and you can operate it on the remote.  Once that is done I would do another.

This will free up about 4-5 spaces.   At that point test the others engines on the Commander, record the address and make sure they run.  At that point take the PS-3 and try to add it and see what happens.  If it adds, recor the address and than go back and try to add original #9.  If it adds and runs, you will have 5-7 engines in the Commander with room for 3-5 more.  You might want to run with only 8 in the system.  That would leave room to add and edit one more.  I am thinking you can't edit when the 10 engine is added.   G

I guess I'm missing something, why not just "wipe the slate" and add the engines.  It's not like it's that onerous to add a few engines to the remote.

You're right John that would take about 30 minutes. But with everything else I've been through my worry is that I'll do something else dumb/wrong and have all of my engines refuse to re-add. Common sense tells me to do it the way you recommend but I guess I've been in aerospace too long to fully trust my interaction with electronics.

Scott,

Do I have to factory reset the engines that are currently stored before I do the Commander reset? Or is the Commander reset all that is needed?

Just the DCS Commander, not the engines.

I think you'll agree that the correct next step for me will be to do what I should have done to begin with. Just buy a full DCS + TIU rev L system.

I regularly tell people not to purchase a DCS Commander for O gauge.

Well, it's hard to argue with that logic, I know I've done things and later wondered why in the world I jumped in with both feet.

OTOH, you may spend a ton more time trying to do this piecemeal.

Will all be moot soon enough. I'm going to purchase a full DCS + TIU system and be done with all this Commander nonsense. Irony is that the whole reason I got the Commander to begin with was to keep things simple. Yeesh.

Final update provided 10 apr 14 as a public service:

Nothing wrong with the engine except maybe the smoke and volume pots were in the wrong locations. Problem was trying to add an 11th engine to the DCS Commander console which can only store 10 engines in memory. Oddly enough, you can assign any address # from 1 to 99 but the total quantity of PS2/3's that can be added to the Commander console memory is limited to 10. There are also apparently two different versions of the users manual. One version says "can store up to 10 engines" and another version -- in error -- says "can store up to 99 engines". If this sounds confusing, it is. Cost for the Commander console is about half of full DCS system but not worth it IMO when you consider the much greater advantages of full DCS.
