Unlike many other of the fallen flags, the Erie Railroad does not seem to have much of a variety to chose from when it comes to steam, in particular their Berkshires. I know lionel has a tmcc and a legacy  version and mth has done similar models. My question is what is everyone's opinion on these engines, what ever you have? The main reason I'm asking is because of the 3rd Rail/Sunset models that are coming out soon. Looking forward to seeing how they turn out by the way.

P.S. Don't want more than 2 Erie steamers.

Everything I've seen over the years are just "some kind of Berkshire" with Erie decals.

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Third Rail versions as they are being built to look like the Erie Berks as much as possible. For example the tenders are different on the S3 and S4. I'm sure some of the small details on the engine will have to favor one or the other, but I'm willing to accept that. I have had my order in for one of these for years now and it is good to hear that they are coming in the near future.

My grandfather fired on the Erie out of Avoca PA and I have always wanted an S3 Erie Berk like the ones I've seen in photos of Avoca yard. One of the coolest photos that I have is one of my grandfather standing on the pilot of a Triplex at the Dunmore shops on a very rare visit there.

I really like some of the Erie Berks.  My favorite is the one with articulating trailing truck, the drivers with four round holes, and the flat-side tender.  I already have the mechanism and trailing truck done - the boiler is so huge in comparison that I may have to order more brass before I start.

I am sure this thing, when finished, will make the K-Line Berk look like S Scale.  Actually, the K-Line Berk looks S-Scale to me next to a Williams B6sb.
