One way or another you're going to have use feature 45. You'll find it under Var channel  Soft-key MPG as my friend Joe Allen pointed out in a different thread.  . Select MPG and scroll to feature 45. Press the thumb wheel again and let dcs do it's thing Yes it's noisy .There should be a couple of options,,, "Brakes off" This is as far as I can go,,, My ps-1 engines  are long gone

You could use a Lionel post war transformer with a whistle button and raise and lower the handle 45 times after reset (2 dings on start up) then use the whistle button to lock in your choice.  I've have  used the MPG on the dcs remote , it works and is much easier. Don't forget  the engine needs a charged battery to have the new  setting stick.

What's your manual say?

Landon,

Greg is correct about the post war transformer and resetting, however I do not think the DCS will work in the manner he described with the P1 engine.  If it does its news to me.  If you have a side receiver for the Z4K you might have some additional control using the hand held remote, but if I remember correctly sound is really not one of them, however there maybe a way to shut the sound off completely.

Place your PS-1 engine on a variable track. Press the TR button and put 12 volts on that track. Press the PS1 softkey. Now press the MPG softkey. Using the thumbwheel scroll through the PS-1 options. This will get you to Squealing brakes feature 45. Now press the thumbwheel. Lights will blink 45 times. Now press done.

I tested my above post. When pressing the thumbwheel the screen that says done comes up. When pressing done the lights blink the set number of times. Now you press the whistle button to set the feature.

Not to confuse things. I even had my VAR channel set to fixed with 18 volts on the track. The 1st time I scrolled the thumbwheel which puts the track in VAR mode until the TIU is shut off. The 2nd time after powering down the TIU and repowering I just hit the PS-1 button and then the MPG. I was still able to make the lights flash.

The important thing is the engine has to be on a VAR track. That track has to be addressed by the TR button. The engine has to be in Reset mode. This is done by powering upover 12 volts and hearing 2 bells or clinks.

Hi Landon,

I see you are a new member, welcome aboard and thanks for putting up the avatar. Might I suggest you also update your profile with an email in case  someone wishes to ask you directly a question, like this one.

Are you any relation to Olga Eshbach of Lancaster PA? or is Eshbach a common Pennsylvannia name?

Ok Joe, you have the reputation of being the 'handsome' farmer from NJ who manages to help keep the NE lawns green with top notch sod. When are you going to share an Avatar with us?
