PS 2 5 Volt board problem

i had to change the speaker out in on of my F3s that has a 5 volt board. I changed the speak successfully being care full to stay grounded and not touch anything else. I put the engine on the track to test it before putting the shell back on. It worked great so I put the shell back on and fired it up for another test. There were no sounds but everything functioned as it should. Is this normal when a 5 volt board goes out? I couldn’t find anything pinched or shorted out. It just quit, any help out there?

either the speaker came unplugged when you put the top on it or you may have grounded the speaker wire to the frame and blew the audio ic amp. take the cover off again and test after you confirm the speaker wires are correct and then power up and test again ! i

I ensured that all wires and connectors are connected and nothing was grounded. Some how the amp blew but I don’t know why.

A bunch of the 5V speakers developed plating issues and some had shorts to the frame through the coil, that will toast the amplifier.

If only the amplifier is dead, that's one of the few parts you can replace on the 5V board.

I have tried 2 new ones and no luck. Shipping the engine tomorrow and having the boards replaced. Unfortunately I have no choice.

You have a choice. If it only needs an audio chip you can have it replaced but at some point the board will probably blow up. The 5 volt boards do this often. Or have a new Proto32 board installed.

I don’t know how to get a new audio chip and I didn’t know these had separate audio chips. I have had several 5v boards for years that so far are still good . I am going for the PS 3 upgrade on this one.
