MTH has in the past released PS2 sets with "novelty" sound sets, like the Harley Davidson engine that plays "the sound of Harleys being loaded at the factory" or the Anheiser Busch set, or the Rudolph "Red Nose" set.

If I were to, say, gut one of these engines to use the electronics to upgrade another engine, could they be reset or reflashed with "normal" sound sets?

For that matter, never having heard one in person, are the "novelty" sounds limited to the "station sound" set, or do they do silly stuff like play music when the loco is in operation?

I assume you'd need the DCS system (which I don't have) but I'm sure I could find someone with the right equipment, or at least I'll be able to once I move back to PA this summer, where O-gaugers are more plentiful.

Brian,

Thank you for asking that question.  I do not have a DCS yet, but I have had two PS2 engines for about a year and a half.  The 'cab chatter' was neat the first few times I heard it, but then it gets a bit old.  I do not know if that sound is setup differently than the 'novelty' sounds you are referring to, but I would like to do away with them when I get a DCS.  Now the engine sounds NEVER grow old!

John, you know I'll be coming around.

As for cab chatter,  yeah it does get old.  Is it possible to replace it with custom dialogue,  or even better, nothing?

The sounds of coal and water being added are a neat idea, but kind of silly if the loco isn't spotted at a coal or water tower.  I do wish there was an inexpensive way to trigger those sounds only when the loco is in the correct spot (perhaps with a corresponding animated accessory.)

Thank you John!  I thought as much.  Having just entered O-Gauge only about 2 years ago, after 45 years in HO and N scales, it will take me a little while to get up to speed. I spent all the money I got from the sale of my HO and N for our two daughters' tuition.  I think that was a better investment.    The DCS is on my list, but at least I can run some trains in the meantime.

Mark,

You will love the full DCS, make sure you get the latest L version of the TIU when you purchase however.  If you like your engines now just wait till you get your full DCS, you will really love them! Actually I like the work train cab chater that came with the 263E very much. The only thing I wish is that MTH DCS  would engineer, Command Control switches, or the ability to control Lionel FasTrack CC switches, from the DCS hand held remote Control.  Now this would be some serious

advancement in the DCS.

Mark,

I live by that signature line, there are people who hate me for it, when they can't change my beliefs and way of living.  I hope each and every man understands who the Supreme Archetict really is, and lives by his life rules.  There are a lots of little boys in this world, a man lives by the Lords rules, and never worries about what another man believes.  Glad you liked the signature line.
