I'm headed to San Diego on Tuesday morning for a couple days and plan on spending the afternoon (Tuesday) at the MRR Museum. Mostly at the 3 Railers layout of course...hopefully I'll see a couple of you there tomorrow. It's been a couple years since I've been there.

Years ago, when I was working Santa Fe and, later, Amtrak San Diegans, One of the 3-rail club members, since deceased, was a regular train watcher at the depot and knew all the regular crews. Neither of us was doing anything in 3-rail then. You never know.
Laidoffsick,
Hope you have a great time. I won't be there (work) but the other fellas would be more than happy to make themselves available.
I'd advise that you try to visit the layout earlier in the afternoon rather than later if you can so that you get the most out of it. The museum closes at 4pm during the week, and typically the last hour is spent winding things down as the trains are slowly put away for the day so you may not witness the full effect of trains running & operating. So I would say the optimum operating times are from 11am to 3pm during the week, or if visiting on weekends 11am to 4pm as it's open until 5.
Did you ever end up joining and becoming a member?

Which hobby shop would that be? Would you be referring to Dynamic Hobbies in Hemet?
were you the person who spent a lot of time with club president j Everett. if so you should have said something we would have given you a behind the scenes tour.
for anyone else if you show up on a Tuesday mention that you post here and you get a behind the scenes tour.
I have been there twice. It is a nice club to visit.
We'll be in San Diego this fall for a week and will definitely visit the club. We also will ride the Surfliner up as far as LA. Naturally, the zoo is on our list and possibly a ride to see Palm Springs.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Fred
jon gets hundreds of emails and is kinda of old school on answering them. (he doesn't) if you are still in town stop by and ask for an application someone will give you one.
I stopped in there today around 1130ish. Met a few of the members, hung out for a couple hours, BS'd with the guys, and got an application. Next time I head down that way I'll make sure to take a train with me to run on the layout. Thanks to Jim Murphy and Dallas for showing me around the layout :-)
