Laidoffsick,

Hope you have a great time.  I won't be there (work) but the other fellas would be more than happy to make themselves available.

I'd advise that you try to visit the layout earlier in the afternoon rather than later if you can so that you get the most out of it.  The museum closes at 4pm during the week, and typically the last hour is spent winding things down as the trains are slowly put away for the day so you may not witness the full effect of trains running & operating.  So I would say the optimum operating times are from 11am to 3pm during  the week, or if visiting on weekends 11am to 4pm as it's open until 5.

Did you ever end up joining and becoming a member?

Well after hitting the hobby shop, winery, and seafood place on the way to San Diego, we got down there after 4pm. So I'll hit it on Wednesday about noonish to spend a couple hours. I figure I'll just sign up when Im down there if possible because no one ever sent me the stuff after asking me if I wanted it. No big deal, we signed up for a wine club membership so now we have to go down that way every other month anyway
Yeah needed some Floquil paints and scenery supplies. He hasnt ordered any O stuff in 5 years but has whats left marked down to reasonable prices. Bought a few Plastruct storage tank kits and a Lionel PS1 box car. I really needed the paint to finish my 4449 detailing..... and it was on the way to SD anyway...well kinda.
Its been a couple years since I was there. I did email J Everett about membership in the last month or so but he never sent the info. John Korling also emailed me with a bunch of information on the club and how it works as well. Im actually on vacation this week and in San Diego for a couple days of good grub and relaxing, so I thought I would just stop by the Museum/Club while Im there(here now).

jon gets hundreds of emails and is kinda of old school on answering them. (he doesn't)  if you are still in town stop by and ask for an application someone will give you one.

I stopped in there today around 1130ish. Met a few of the members, hung out for a couple hours, BS'd with the guys, and got an application. Next time I head down that way I'll make sure to take a train with me to run on the layout. Thanks to Jim Murphy and Dallas for showing me around the layout :-)
