Hello--happy holidays to all--I was wondering if I could pick the brains of the experts-- I have a 3 rail Atlas RS-1 alco diesel made about 10+ years ago that is equipped with TMCC. I see that ERR through 3rd rail offers a sound upgrade kit that is much better. My question is can an atlas RS1 accept this upgrade and if so is there anything else I need to get or would be recommended. Additionally the headlight is way too white think the prototype was more of a softer off yellow color. The gentleman who does my repairs wasnt sure if this kind of modification was possible on an atlas engine. Thanks in advance for the help

The lights on Atlas diesels can be pretty easy or a real bear to replace with the proper colored LED.  In any case, if you want it bad enough, it is possible.

You should be able to do the sound with just the ERR RailSounds Commander kit.  There will be a bit of custom wiring involved, you simply tap into the pins of the old RS4 board on the motherboard.  I've done a few of these. First off, remove the two RailSounds board, the generic power supply and the audio board.

In really tight quarters, I actually lopped the extended pins on the TMCC motherboard off and after insulating it well, plopped the ERR sound board on top.  You'll need to tap off track power, ground, speaker(2), and serial data.  All are available on the RS4 board socket.  The required signals are denoted by the red arrows.

If you're really energetic, you can pull the volume pot off the ERR RailSounds Commander and run three jumper wires to the spots indicated by the green arrows.
