Hi Everyone. Alan asked me to start this week's showcase do to a bad storm his way. I'm a bit a late because I just found this out. I think it would be fitting to start out with the steel mill that he modified for me. I recently undertook painting and weathering the model. This is almost ready to go back on the layout. More of the process coming soon...

Thanks for starting us up Dave. I was beginning to worry about Alan, glad to hear he's okay.
Some more work on the intermodal facility. I've added a Lionel Mi-Jack, of course it needs a gear repair. I've also added some trucks and some containers. I tried for some forced perspective placing the larger containers and trucks toward the front of the layout and the Lionel 1:64 items further away. I think it worked better in some pictures than others.

One Question: What can you tell me about the Greenish Color you're using on the vertical tanks and structures in that scene.
I am working on a large kitbashed Chemical Industry ( photos below ) and I'd love to use that color or something close on some of my vertical tanks etc.

Thanks Dave for starting. Your weathering looks great and always brings out what I have constructed for you to another level.
Living in this building does not allow me to have my whole house generator that I am used to. We have one hear but it only operates a few things in the building. There appears to have been a tornado involved that took out a decent amount of the power grid in the area. We are back in business now.

ChrisA, you can use any color for your tanks. Petroleum tanks are usually painted whit, silver or black today. Chemical tanks can be any color. Pick out a name and maybe a logo and paint your tanks to go with that. Chemical plants sometimes have some stainless steel tanks. They are not usually painted and are a basic nickel or silver color to look like stainless. Have fun with a cool color scheme.

Thank you. The pro, Alan, has provided some great advice. However, to answer your question I used a moss color from Rust-Oleum.

Alan, thanks for the information on typical tank colors for different industries etc. Glad to hear about the flexibility and variation for tanks in the chemical businesses. Really didn't want to them all in silver, black white or gray.

This week is some of the first scenic work I have accomplished in several weeks and months so I’m going ahead and post the results. Hopefully some will view my post.
I’m following my plan to add a white metal sided building known as a molding shop to the Harbison Walker Firebrick plant on my layout. My father worked at the firebrick plant that shut down in 1962.
over a year ago I found a large MTH made building with a brick stack. The building was made as a beer manufacturer.
I used polystyrene metal sheets 4528 from Evergreen model products. These sheets covered the red brick used on the original beer manufacturers.
Tonight I have finished adding more interior lighting and so I’m ready to move from the bench into position in the brick plant on the table.
