TCA car coupler issues

recently bought a beautiful TCA car [ ie. overton type car for lionel generals ] 2 pickup dixie colors and wonderful paint. However its been sitting in a box since its creation I've oiled the couplers and worked them I'm still having problems with the couplers opening all by themselves.looking for a fix!

The usual suspects: use a rubber band to keep it closed, swap trucks, bend the shaft a little to improve contact, etc.
