Hi

I opened the TIU to reseat the floating transceiver board  and had a quick question in regards to soft nonconductive  spongy material. Does the soft nonconductive  spongy material go between the floating transceiver board and the antenna and then the cover. Or should the floating transceiver board, the antenna, then soft nonconductive  spongy material and then the cover. My concern is that the soft nonconductive  spongy material will prevent the signal from the antenna. I just want to do this right the first time and not have problems down the road. Yes, I do have the latest copy of Barry book.

Kris,

My concern is that the soft nonconductive  spongy material will prevent the signal from the antenna.

It shouldn't cause any issues regardless of how you place the foam material. Neither the lid nor the foam material is any kind of a radio signal blocker.

Regardless, I'd place the material between the lid and the top of the board/antenna assembly so as to be sure not to compromise the antenna's connection to the transceiver board.

I'd put the antenna away from the board on top of the foam if you're leaving it inside.  Like Dave said, in many cases sticking it up outside gives you better range for the remotes.

I found that simply standing the TIU up gives the same results. So I mounted it vertically on a panel. The same with the remote mods. I leave both alone now.

If you do the hole and put the wire thru, make sure you don't pull the wire as the whole board will pop off. The foam should help this.
