Not sure if I am missing something but since I got into this hobby I am amazed at how much contradictory information is in Lionel user manuals. But am also extremely grateful to all the knowledgeable members on this forum that take the time to discuss and explain what is sometimes pretty complex electronics and in a way that is easy to understand.
That said, my owners manual for my Chesapeake Super Freight RTR says that the reset code for the 2-8-4 steam loco is 74.
Lionel chart says this is for Wireless Tether.  My loco and tender are clearly tethered and I do not need to cut the shrink wrap to prove they are not fiber optic fibers.  Many posts suggest that 4 is the correct code for steam with smoke.
I guess I should be happy that Lionel gave me a manual since all three NIB K-Line TMCC steamers that I have bought did not have them. But they do have tethers. And made around the same time. 2005-2006 I think. Does anyone know what those codes are?

Thanks
I am really enjoying this hobby and enjoy figuring things out.
And except for that alarm clock I took apart as a kid, i have been pretty good at fixing things. But as I tell my young engineers in work, I have learned more by asking questions and then making educated guesses than by pure trial and error. And mistakes are a lot more expensive than in the days when grandma did a ring job on the Model T in the driveway every 18,000 miles.

Thanks
FMH

Thanks Mike. My new K-line 4-6-6t should arrive tomorrow. And I believe that has cruise. It will be interesting to see if it has a manual. Three sealed boxes and I haven't gotten one yet. You know if there's a reason why they are not readily available. Copyright issues? Or did K-line just not invest in the technical writing? Thanks again.
