Lucky you as you will be in “train shop heaven”!

A few that are worth stopping in were left off the lists provided by others: C.T. McCormick in Zelienople and the Underground Railroad in New Castle which are both definitely worthwhile stops for O gauge and will be closeby if you are coming in the turnpike from Ohio.  And then there’s also Niedzalkoski's Train Shop in Jeannette and the Fairchance Pharmacy which is not too far from Scottdale.

RickC,

My home is in Churchill, Pa.  I have known Dave, owner of Bill and Walts

sense he purchased the original store on the Blvd Of the Allies in Pittsburgh

in the late 50's.  The white Oak store is the down sized version of the much larger

store Dave had from the 50's thru the late 70's.  For many years Dave was the only real competition Frank, the owner of the Iron Horse Hobby Shop had.

The competition between these two men was well known in the train world.

Frank was many years older than Dave and has now passed away, Dave is a true business man and has downsized his store as he has become older.  Dave's connections at Lionel and MTH goes back to the old store, which took up one side of

the city block, on the Blvd of the Allies in Pittsburgh.

Gee...street addresses and a map would have been useful....who/which shop, now

closed, was east off I-79 on the south side of Pittsburgh, that I used to visit some

years ago on the way to York?  It was near Heidelberg but was closed the last time..
some years ago...that I visited it, and think it was always closed Mondays so I missed

getting in a couple of trips....Which ones listed above are close to I-70, I-79, and the PATP on the south side of the city?

MJRODG3N88,  yes I know where the school is.  My wife went there about 40 years ago lol.  I was raised in Mckeesport.  I am in North Huntingdon now  just past White Oak Park.

Pine Creek RR, I've been to both Bill n Walts shops.  Although I haven't been to Pittsburgh store for many years.  Used to have some very good friends in Churchill.

So many forumites from the Pittsburgh area.  We should get together sometime.  Maybe do lunch.

Yes, Haler Heights AKA Pill Hill  is actually in Mckeesport.  They used to call it Pill Hill because that's where all the doctors that worked at Mckeesport Hospital lived.  I used to build houses and 1 house I built is located on the hill going up to Pill Hill.

Rick

Bill,

You maybe right about it being the Iron Horse, but it was not all that close to I 79.

Frank was a good friend and I was a founding member of his Iron Horse Train Club.

His passing was an end of an era here in the Pittsburgh area.

Frank and a couple of the Iron Horse Train Club members just before his passing

B&G Shoe Repair in Monroeville is a great quick stop for us when we're in town visting my Mother-in Law.  Sam the Shoe Man is a GREAT guy and typically has several items from Brady's.  Sam is very helpful and will have items ready for us when we're in town for a quick trip.  He does a great job with shoes, too.

Mike & Rick,

Looks like 1:30 PM  for Brunch at Jody B's in Forest Hills on Sunday will

be fine with everyone.  See you there!

If anyone else on the OGR forum would happen to be in the area, please feel free to join us for Brunch, it should be a great time, meeting and talking trains.

DGuill,

I completely forgot about B&G Shoe Repair, Sam the shoe guy is great and loves his trains, definitely a unique place to see.
