Wondering if it is possible to use two DCS Remote Commanders on the same layout (two electrically isolated loops). I know that they use infrared but didn't know if they come with varied frequencies or if any remote will trigger any IR lock-on.

Failing the above, any chance of using one DCS Remote Commander with an older MTH IR remote on the same layout (again, two electrically isolated loops)? Yes, I'll get a TIU and remote (or the upcoming WiFi module) when I can.

Thanks!

James,

I tried that once just for fun with the DCSRC I sold you and another one I had sitting around. Didn't work really well. Lots of interference and/or engines responding to commands intended for the other engine, etc. Even with the bases isolated, it still wasn't that great.

I don't believe the older IR unit is compatible in any way with the new DCSRC but I may be wrong.

I believe you could run two Remote Commanders on the same layout with each controlling its own isolated loop. However the receivers would have to be shielded from one another so you could point the remote at one without the intended infrared signal being picked up by the other. Some of us with Sanyo television sets have already become proficient at sharing the remote with other devices by shielding one from the other. Most of the time the palm of your hand is a sufficient shield. It's very convenient to be able to change TV channels with your train remote.
