Here is one loco I never really payed any attention to, at first glance almost appears to be a stripped down Lionel 4-4-2 starter set loco. Its from around the 1998-1999 time frame, part of set 7-21904 Safari Railroad, which was a very low cost starter set.
Also a similar loco was used in set 21917 Norfolk & Western. Kind of interesting in that some of the boiler characteristics appear very similar to the larger 4-4-2 starter set loco that Lionel has used for years. Just one connecting rod and no other side rods, definitely an unusual looking loco.
