Volume Control

I had the same problem with early PS3 engines. MTH tech downloaded a new sound  file which did not work on the early PS3 engines. Finally I replaced the speakers with MTH BF00034s and the sound volume was definitely enhanced. I was satisfied with the results.

Did your PS2 engine have a 5 volt PS2 board? If so, and the 16 ohm speaker wasn't swapped out for a 4 ohm replacement, sound volume could be significantly reduced.

Yes, it was an early 5v PS2 board.  Thanks for your reply Barry.  Tom

Barry is correct on the speaker.  Was this just a PS32 board transplant  or done with an upgrade kit?  The upgrade kit comes with a new 4 ohm speaker.   My guess would be the person who did the upgrade does not know enough if he left the 16 ohm speaker in the locomotive.  The other option is and I hope it would not  be, he scored your speaker if done with a PS3 upgrade kit.

An authorized MTH repair center installed the MTH upgrade kit.  The technician asked me to bring it in so they can have a look/listen.  They are about 4 hours away so it will be a few weeks before I make the journey.  Thanks for your suggestion which makes a lot of sense to me although the technician said that they replaced the speaker, so the jury is still. out.

Great.  You should have luck getting it done.

I think at four hours driving time I'd ship it.

If comfortable , drop the fuel tank and check out the speaker OHM wise.  I'm guessing same thing happens  in conventional mode with the vol pot on full.   Press the sound +++++ key many times. You may get a little more volume. Wait a minute, is this a diesel? Sp[eaker should be in fuel tank.

If you do look at the speaker, see if it's marked "4 ohms" or "16 ohms", with this symbol "��" for "ohms".
