Enjoying the trip to Ashville in early April.  The 611 is somewhere up there. 

Need some window washing in Ashville as my son walks by. 

This gives an idea a scale. 

LCJ&I Lines has acquired a drone, to monitor and oversee railroad operations! Our operators are still learning to control it, but initial indications are that it will provide unique views of rail operations. My YouTube video #40 is here:

A few notes on various subterfuges in this video. I'm using a Hubsan H107c X4 nano drone. Controlling it is like controlling a drunken mosquito (for me, for now). So I am showing all actual drone flights at 1/4 their normal speed, to make drone motions seem more ponderous and realistic. Also, this Hubsan has an on-board video camera, but here again I cheated: Rather than using that camera (which would have been too jerky, and lacking in accurate aiming), I put my Canon videocamera on the end of a long pole, and moved the pole around over the layout for the aerial views. Perhaps some day my drone control will be accurate enough to allow actual real-time operations to be shown, but that day has not yet arrived.

This week I got a new camera. I know lots of folks are getting Digital SLRs, but I still want a good camera that I can wear on my belt. I chose the Nikon Coolpix S9000.  Good reviews, and previous Coolpix models have served me well. Then, I also tried a new photo management program: Color EfexPro4. This program gives lots of filters and ways to give photos a unique look. I'm not sure yet what I will do with it, or how much use it will get, but here are the first three with the camera and program.

First: Lionel UP #9717 and intermodal train.

Next: K-Line B&O Scale Pacific.

Last:  K-Line "Black Jack" GG1 and passenger train.

Now I finally have some experience painting locomotives. Took this old girl's pilots from blue to black.

One down, three to go.

That is a MTH Premier Proto 2 Long Island Atlantic. I relettered it years ago. I bought it in Orange Hall at York for $350.00. I would love to see MTH do  a "Set of J's". The original J which was a 4-4-0, the Atlantic J and of course there is no shortage of the 4-8-4's.

It can be found, somewhat easily. The version I have came out of the MTH CSX RTR Train Set, #30-4224-1 (CSX SD70 Imperial RTR Train set). Being a RTR set caboose, detail isn't the best. There is no interior detail. Eventually I'll cover the windows with frosted plastic so you can't see inside. 

MTH also recataloged this car, the 185th Anniversary version (more on this later). It is in the most current catalog, item number 20-91587. This is a Premier version. I'd think there would be interior detail if that is important to you. I also think (but not 100% sure) MTH offered this in the past in Railking and/or Premier. 

This is a REAL caboose that is out on CSX. It was painted as the 175th Anniversary caboose several years ago. It was done by a private individual who convinced CSX to let them do this, partially for the Fair of the Iron Horse at the B&O Museum that got snowed out. Recently for the 185th Anniversary of the B&O (2013 I think?) the date was changed to 185th Anniversary. 

The real one seems to spend a great deal of time in Ohio.
