A customer asked me to scratch build him an icing platform, he always liked the version from Atlas. He sent me some pictures and sizes, i put my own spin on it. Here's some pictures of it in progress, this is all made with pine and poplar wood. Only item made with styrene is the small white building.

Great shots,  can you imagine the size of layout one would need if you had a starting quarterback boxcar for each guy that has started for them since they returned in 1999.  I think Mayfield's start will make him the 30th since 99

CN 394 with a little KCS help, exiting the St. Clair Tunnel. What I liked about this photo was the black oil/grease stripe down the center of the track. It gives me a little more "ammo" now when the scale guys chirp about my Atlas O 3 rail!!

Hi all, I haven’t posted in awhile, as the trains have taken a back seat this summer. The DeLorean was misbehaving and I have learnt more about K Jetronic fixing it than anyone should have to suffer.

Anyway had a couple of days off this week and put up a second set of display shelves.

First set, that we have had up for a couple of years.

New set of shelves.

Pool table is clear for the first time in at least a year

Well, there's this project. It never ends - partly because we have had never-ending rains around Mobile, for weeks. The mud is in full bloom, where part of my backyard grass used to be. In the distance is the existing 12X24 layout/workshop. All my building and running (mostly building) goes on in there. Parts everywhere. I have to dumpster-dive to find anything. Walk sideways a lot. (The model railroader "slide-n-shuffle".)

So....I'm having built a 12X15 addition; the old entry door (door itself will be removed) is now in the wall separating the layout from the Locomotive Works. The workbench, supplies (look at all that stuff on the floor and in boxes - not "junk"!) and tools will now reside in the new area, foreground, and then I may once again see my layout.

========

After the old vinyl siding was removed:

And I had the carpenter add two holes ("rabbit holes" he called them)...gee, I wonder why? Well, there is going to be some compact as possible benchwork, a simple 072 loop in and out, lift-up bridge in the walkway. This increases my outside main run by...a bunch. It's too easy (relatively) not to do. I already have 2 sidings aimed about the right way on the layout. Cheap thrills, small footprint.

Many railfans, myself included, feel that the Roosevelt Road overpass in Chicago is one of the worlds great trainwatching spots.  Looking towards downtown you see the tracks leading into Union Station with the skyscrapers of downtown Chicago on the horizon. Amtrak and Metra yards are beneath you and trains continually pass underneath you.

Well, it is nowhere to that scale, but I have sort of a Roosevelt Road scene on my layout.  In this case, the Chicago Union Station is parallel to the passenger yards, but a dedicated railfan could brave the traffic on the highway to watch the activity in the yards and station.

15B832C0-1C34-471B-8146-783504D7D2AEI was disappointed walking out of the Sacramento TTOS train show this morning because nothing caught my eye to buy... then I saw the Wells Fargo stagecoach made by Matchbox.  I’ve been looking for one at a reasonable price for years!  Bought it and put it in front of the bank in the back corner of the layout.  The bank building is a piggy bank Wells Fargo offered in the 1970s I think.

Hi Matt Kramer, Like you, I had wanted that Wells Fargo stagecoach, but unlike you, I didn't know I wanted it until I saw it at a trainshow. Once I saw it and had my hands on it, I found it to be good looking and sturdy, so I bought it and figured I'd, someday, think of a way of getting it onto the layout, or just keep it on a shelf in a bookcase.

It occurred to me, seeing several real-life holiday parades, like the Thanksgiving Day parade, in-person, in NYC, as well as seeing the Rose Bowl parade on TV, that having a small-town holiday parade would be a good excuse for having something so unique as the stagecoach on the layout....IMG_0293x

... making its way down the main drag in the holiday parade in the village neighborhood......IMG_3653IMG_3683

You mating yours with the bank is a clever touch. That tells me you are a playful guy, doing things your way! And the nearby trees are a nice embellishment of the scene.

Thanks Monsoon!  I like the parade you have going. Awesome!

I really don’t have a clever touch... I’ve been to Columbia State Park here in California’s gold country and had to mimic what I saw there! Lol!  First I found the bank building in an antique shop... next was finding the stagecoach.

Eventually when I build a more permanent layout with larger space I’ll do a more detailed scene.

Frank, another great scene from you. Last night I worked a bit on the PVC pipe but ran out of glue I was using. A number of  days ago I had gone to Menards and bought three packages of the glue and I could not find one of them last night nor could I remember where I put them. This morning I had to run to the grocery store and I lucked out and got the last package of glue they had so at least I can go back to working on th PVC pipe today.............Paul

Hello everyone

First I'd like to thank

Chris Lonero, Bryan, Byron, coach Joe, Alan G, Alan Mancus, and Redball , For the very kind comments

Coach Joe, No chutes for this build. Although it would be a great addition.

Redball , as for my layout I'm actually Just starting the layout room. The room is bare and needs heat and lighting, room size is 26 X 15. In the very near future I will start shooting video's of the progress.

Open houses will resume next September

If i might add every weekend, weekend photo fun gets better and better. The layouts and scene's are outstanding.

Thanks again , Alex

Can you tell me more about the module bracing in your video. I see this additional 45 degree brace from mid leg to mid module. Doe that prevent or stifen the horizontal vibration/ sway effect?

Yes it does is why we have them on there!!!

Nothing like a nice stiff layout, or is that a stiff drink?

It sure is nice getting all those "LIKES" and the comments from you guys for my reply on this Weekend Photo Fun (9/28/18) thread. Receiving them makes the whole experience of OGR Forum feel like being on a team, where teammates encourage each other, cheer each other along the way, make suggestions for improvements, or simply demonstrate alternative ways of reaching success with our layouts. The positive feedback counts.
