I have been working on my Wonder Bread Bakery today. I have the basic structure built, have two coats of white paint on the walls, and painted the trailer doors dark gray.

I have been mocking up the office area on the front with pictures inside and double lights overhead. I am using Woodland Scenics stickup lights so I can control the intensity with the dimmer on the light hub.

The bakery is on a lift-out section so I am building it at the work bench. I screwed it down to the plywood lift-out after I painted the parking lot and weathered it. Also put grass down while it is on the bench.

Next I have to finish the office and then make a roof and detail it. Also I want to build some flour silos out of PVC pipe that will sit directly behind the bakery on the rail spur for unloading flour form my covered hoppers.

Other plans are to custom make a WONDER BREAD sign for the roof. I have the large Miller Engineering one, but it too large and too modern for me.

Frustrated I turned off the live broadcast of UK football versus Missouri tonight and decided to go to my train room to paint the tunnel walls black.  While painting, the Ky Wildcats came from behind to beat the Tigers by one, 15-14.

Fabulous!

I will always think of this night as I continue to improve on my mountain tunnel.

Go Big Blue!

John d. Sewell,

We can reach out destinations by two rails, but it takes three rails to make our connections!

Thanks Mark and Mike G. For the nice comments.

Got two more passenger cars installed with LEDs this afternoon.  Down to, I think, eight left to do. During my installation process I found one car with a bad coupler hinge and another with the coupler missing on one truck which also had both foot steps bent on the same end.  These are two of a five car set I bought on the Trainz auctions earlier this year.  Didn’t notice the problems when I first got the set.  I managed to straighten the steps.  My plan is use both trucks with good couplers on the observation car to replace the defective ones on the other cars.  I won’t be using the observation car in my Milwaukee Road/Union Pacific consist so it won’t matter if it has bum or missing couplers.

My wife and I have traveled through your beautiful state!

John d.

Hey John,  since I am "layout-less" at the moment and the trains are packed for our relocation, all I could think of was to paint some track.   Thanks for your kind words regarding Oklahoma, it is a very diverse state;  rivers & woods to high plains deserts, and many, many interesting RR footprints.

Johan, another great pic.

Art, nice looking building.

I did the Parma show today. Didn't sell anything but had a great time with friends. When I got home my order from Mr Muffan for Korber flats was sitting by the front door. Have to pick up my passenger cars tomorrow. But Monday hope to start on the flats so I can finish the brwery area. Also here is a pic of the finished Observation car.  I will still have to do the lighting  and the sillouettes when I get them home. Pics............Paul

Art, I have to agree with Mark as I do most of the time, Its coming along nicely and looks great!

Trestleking, sounds like a good way to send the day!

Paul2, I am glad you had fun at the show. But with all the packages MR. Brown leaves for you, you sure have a lot of work ahead of you! Have fun and make sure you post more pictures as you go!

Art- great job on the Wonder Bread building. Growing up on Long Island, Entenmann's was king. My grandmother lived near the big plant in Bay Shore for many years. The whole town smelled like crumb cake . If I ever have the room I would love to model it.

Nice flats Paul.

Great find Jim M- never know what will come out of a grab bag.

Trestleking- painting track, dreaming of the next layout on a beautiful day. Works for me!

John- Glad your Cats came back for the win.

Lee D- more nice shots of your growing empire

Love to see some photos of those cars Larry.

Me? fiddled with a few small things yesterday. I've decided that I want to build some pull out storage shelves under the layout to store cars and loco's. I hate putting them in plastic totes and digging for what I want to run. I wind up with way too much rolling stock on the layout and suffer from grid lock . A larger layout is not in the cards just yet so I gotta live within the confines of my current real estate. The suggestion of more shelves on the walls was not met with great enthusiasm by the CEO either. I would probably gain room under the layout if I could discard the plastic totes too. My layout is 42" off the floor so I can probably get 4 drawers high by 3 car widths, should be good for now. The under mount kitchen drawer glides will allow me to maximize the width of the drawers too. Off to the drawing board!

Sorry Bob, but in Brooklyn (which is on Long Island in spite of what most folks from Nassau and Suffolk say), Entenmann’s was a Johnny-come-lately. Now THIS would make a nice, colorful addition to your layout...

Johan, that's a great shot of the ore train coming out of the tunnel.

The wife and I just got in from picking up the painted passenger cars. Rain held off till we were close to home but we decided to stop at Cracker Barrel for dinner. The passenger cars came out better then I thought because I gave her a drawing of what I wanted so until I saw it for real I was a bit apprehensive. Paul2, the cars look fabulous! What a talented young lady! Keep her employed!~ LOL

Mark, I remember those days from my old layout, but the image is fading fast! I better get off my butt and try to move forward a little faster!

Upon arriving back home after a long day of gigs and a photo shoot with my music group, I ran trains for about 30 minutes or so.  It really felt good to retreat to the train room and have this time with the trains.  I so very much appreciate them!  While the trains were running, I began working on a scene for this week's Team Track Tuesday.  A very enjoyable half hour for sure!

The truck is made out of resin it came from Romania and after about a year I had it the paint faded to a orange/red color and the frame started to sag. The only way to fix the frame was to break it and reposition it into place. Their interior also bothered me because it wasn’t painted Mack interior green and the seats wasn’t painted brown so I decided to fix that also while  I had it apart and I repainted it red today.

Not much lately. Our train room is stuffed with lawn equipment that we had to keep safe from both Hurricane Florence and Michael. There isn't any room to move around in there. I need to empty it out, and I'm hoping that once I do that ... I'll be able to assess the final moves to get the table fully operational and used more often than it has been. The oldest still talks about his "outside trains" so the interest is still there.

Plus, it's almost time to think about what I'm going to do for underneath the tree.  I think I'll need a bit more FasTrack. There is a train show in MB coming up in a few weeks. Hope to get a deal or two.

LOL- Don't forget about us folks from LAWN GUILAND

Took my new K-line PRR ALCO's apart yesterday and gave the shells a good bath. Must have been in a home with a heavy smoker (not the Lionel kind), they were pretty grimy and sticky. A couple of the pick up rollers are in bad shape. One of them on the power unit must have gotten jammed and had a big glob of track gook stuck to it. When I scrapped it off, the one side of the roller had a big groove in it from dragging on the track. I have some spares so I will swap out the bad ones.
I wired the motors in series as is mandatory with all K-line dual-motor diesels.

Now I need some advice- the dummy A unit has some spray paint splatter on it. Any suggestions to safely remove it with out damaging the plastic shell and lettering?

Firefox_Screenshot_2018-10-29T12-47-00.143Z

I also applied some varnish to the first couple of windings on my KW transformer. Every time I move one handle the other roller hits the winding and gets the loco on the other track either moving or trips the E unit.

Packed up more boxes from my recent buying spree  and sent them to the attic for storage.

Grandson and I got to run trains Saturday night and Sunday for the first time in many months. The best part was letting him take the ZW throttle for the first time, he was very excited but very determined to keep it under control. Which he did. The tracks took quite a while to get clean, especially the Fasttrack. We ran a Lionel 2026 for the that we picked up at the DuPage train show back in April, with a nice whistle tender. After a quick checkup, minor cleaning, a bit of lube, it ran very nicely on it's maiden run. It will creep along quite slowly and smoothly, which was a pleasant surprise, and easily pulled about 8 cars. We also ran the "big green engine" (John Deere Lionchief) which was troublesome until extensive cleaning of the Fasttrack rails.20181027 Hand on the throttle, running the 2026

Paul and Bob, I find it kind of fun trying to spell how we really say things in different parts of the English speaking world!

Deuce, At least you and yours are safe!  I brought some of my wife's plants in before we started getting frost, and now really see how they grew.  I have three that were in the way in the area I plan to build the layout, so moved them Saturday to the old little train room where there is more light.  It's a bit tight, but I am going to end up making that a workshop!  I'll be 62 this week, and it will be my first workshop in my life!  That's an accomplishment!

Mike, My Christmas lights are still in the attic.  Looks like you have incentive to getting yours hung early!

Bob, the Alcos do look better, but I do see the splatter on one.  I'll let the experts comment on what to use for removal.

Slowhands, Your grandson looks very attentive!  Great photograph!  Congratulations on getting him back to the layout and that he has graduated to the throttle!

Jim, I was looking online for a photograph of the Braun's Bakery, but didn't come up with anything.  Thanks for the information that the NS/old PRR ran behind.

Have you tried scraping gently with a fingernail?   Try that,  then brake fluid applied with a Q-Tip and gently rubbed.  If that doesn't work,  try generic Lectric Shave with a Q-tip.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Tried scraping one inconspicuous spot with limited success. WD-40 and Contact cleaner did nothing. I used to use an electric shaver, might still have an old bottle of Williams lectric-shave kicking around the house.

My pleasure!  Be careful with the Lectric Shave, as it will take the paint off a painted shell as well.   Won't bother the plastic, though.

Mitch

Bob, I would try some alcohol in an inconspicuous spot; if that doesn't work try dish detergent (inconspicuous spot again). Try NOT to use mineral spirits or lacquer based paint thinners, AND if you are so brave again be sure it's in an inconspicuous spot. My guess is dish detergent will soften it enough that you can get them off with your fingernail. Just rinse the detergent off after doing a few spots - don't try doing it all at one time.

Mark, I try to get them up before the weather changes ! But I am a little late already, nothing but rain for the past 5 days! Plus I have to get them out to check them before they go outside, I hate working on them in the rain and cold!

Brian, nice pictures, and thank you for the little videos!

I'm with you on getting them up before it gets cold.  We have had a lot of rain lately too.  The trouble is, if I put them up too early maple leaves will get caught between the wires and the gutter.  We had a very late spring, I started mowing the last few days of April, and now a late fall.  I haven't even started raking leaves yet, which is unusual.  Oh well.  We always take whatever comes!

@Deuce;

Glad to hear through the hurricanes OK. The videos shown on the news up here were pretty frightening.

On the subject of Fastrack for Christmas trees, after months of being away dealing with two knee replacements (one mine, one my brother’s), I’ve been starting to get the train room organized and have been finding things I forgot I bought... I’ve found two 4-packs of O-72 curves which I can’t use - I have absolutely no room to expand, so they are superfluous. Let me know if you could use them (same terms as the otherbtrack).

I worked on my Ceiling Central Railroad today.  The inner loop of 027 track gave me trouble, so I removed it and realigned some of the GarGraves track.  I tried putting in switches for a siding, and it got too frustrating in the small space so I opted for one track for now.  Here is the latest.  I know, the lighting isn't the best.  Someday.....

Mark, if you view it in full screen the lighting is just right! Makes me want one! LOL My problem is my ceiling is not flat! by the time I would run it above the door, it would hit the ceiling on the other side!

They are beautiful!

Thank you, Bob!  The jogs in the wall forced me into the S curves, but once the track is good, it is interesting to watch the train flow around them.  Those S curves were what messed with me when I had two tracks.  I would run trains a long time thinking everything was good, then have a clearance issue with say a 40 foot boxcar and a 2-4-4 cab roof.  So I finally got tired of moving track and eliminated the second loop.  There is at least one piece of straight track between curves.  Thank you on the RSD-5.  MTH did a nice job.  I like the looks of the RS-3 better, but

Thank you, Pat!!  Your setups for Teamtrack Tuesday look great, especially like the trucks!

Had a great meeting with our Tuesday Night Train Crew and got to sign our new host train car.  Might have been a record setting night with the number of people we had but that might have been because we were off for 2 weeks.  (York week we don't meet, and last week had to be cancelled due to the host house being damaged because a tree fell on his house, (everyone safe but house will take 3 months to repair)) We are starting to commemorate those who open their layouts up for the group and doing a little memento to remember each year.
