My MTH QSI DCRU 4-8-4 611 #1105 is having a running issue. It will move forward briefly and stop, when reversed ,same in the other direction. With the body off I gently manipulated manually at the to get wheels moving. Then on test track it ran around 2-3 time and started making noise then stopped. Then back to moving  briefly and stopping. All gears greased recently at proper points, and is clean and free of any contamination.Motor hums just enough to detect that it is trying to move the motor shaft.Where is a good source to view exploded diagram  of motor and shaft etc?

At one point, perhaps over 20 years ago, MTH did publish spiral-bound books of parts diagrams for RailKing and Premier locos.  I'm not sure whether your 'J' was in them, or how easy it would be to find one of these guides today.

I suggest that you carefully check around the wheels.  A rubber tire can come off and jam the wheels.  A driving rod screw can loosen, allowing a rod to contact another rod or prevent the wheels from turning.  If the loco derailed and fell from the table, something could have gotten bent.

If you're comfortable taking the shell off, turn the flywheel slowly by hand.  Look at the driving wheels from the side, and see whether the binding occurs at the same position every time.  Good luck, hope you're able to get it running smoothly again.

Thanks for the reminder Ted.

Unfortunately it's not all-inclusive, but the GS-4 diagram, being a 4-8-4, may be similar to your 'J' and may help you.
