OldMike, Sure looks that way! I tell you I sure don't miss those middle of the night movements! LOL

Ralph, Great job on the B&O engine! Looks a lot better!

Johan, wonderful weathering job on that switcher! First class!

Well with a little time before work this morning at 5:30 AM and a little time after work today I was able to get the track for my service building redone. Moved my crane so it was a little closer to the building, which opened up that area for my scratch built oil tanks! I haven't checked into it yet, but will tomorrow as of why the lights on one of the tanks are not working! I hope you guys enjoy!20190417_18224720190417_18231620190417_182332

Mike, I am in awe of your abilities! Great work. Can't wait to see more.

Paul, looks like you have a good start on your track area, I hope you get a chance to paint to day! Looking good!

Pete, thank you Sir! Some times you have to think out of the box when you don't have the funds to buy stuff you want. I find a picture on the internet and say to myself I can build that, sometimes it works out and other times it doesn't and just sits on the work bench waiting for me to come up with another idea! LOL

Heading out to the train room to get the LED's working on the left tank and I am sure I will find something else to do while I am out there!

Everyone have a great Thursday!

Looking good, Mike.

I managed to convert another couple of ARR passengers cars to LEDs yesterday.  Had great fun trying to get the baggage car back together with the sliding doors.  For some reason or other that particular one was more difficult than the others I have done.  I finally figured out where to place the doors to easily get the chassis in place.  I also had to re-glue the end door "glass" back in place on both cars had to also do the side door window "glass" on the coach which was also missing one of the two.  Haven't tried to locate another one on the MTH website.  Guess I could do that.

Mike G, I see that Menard's made your wish come true with the new brewery!  Yee Haw!!  I tried to check it out on the Menard's website using my phone this morning but the page wouldn't load.

Larry

Ralph M, I like the position of the B & O. I think it looks better then in the middle of the side.

Mike g, I always make sure I have extra cork for when I rip some up to redo it.

Brian, new pics everytime you post and not a repeat yet.

Today double duty. Yard work first. So after lunch I pulled the nails out of the cork and then positioned the track so I could cut off the excess cork. Got the gray and black paint out and now the cork is done. I am just waiting for it to dry so I can add ballast and lay down the track. Heading up to Michigan tomorrow for the weekend to spend Easter with the kids and grandkids. Layout work goes on hold till next week. Pics................Paul 2

Mike. Thank you. That is a quite old work, but i try take some pics before a new scenery comes.

Johan

I promised pictures after it was done, but since this is still taking forever to complete, I decided to show you what I was talking about when I spoke of building a "bar track" around the top of my train room.

To refresh, I built a train room using an abandoned water cistern.  Since it had four columns for load bearing reasons, I decided to put in a track near the ceiling for my grandson's train.  Well, here is a quick look at what I am doing.

I hope these aren't as blurry full size as they look attached.

TRAIN ROOM CURVE is a picture dedicated to just showing you where a curve will go when I get all of the holes drilled.  I still have a hanger on one end that needs the holes elongated so we can adjust it.  So I can't drill the holes in one end of two shelves until we can mark them.

TRAIN ROOM GENERAL is a picture I sent to show you how my track is laid out.  Just a floor model, nothing fancy, no buildings or trees or bushes or the woman forever hanging laundry on a clothes line never to finish while her husband mows that same spot in the lawn into eternity.

TRAIN ROOM SHELVES shows you as best I could how the shelves are laid out around the room.

Plan is to hang the curves next week and start the process of finishing this project.  Next set of pics won't come until it is done.

  • TRAIN ROOM CURVE: This is where a curve will go
  • TRAIN ROOM GENERAL: Basic floor layout, nothing fancy
  • TRAIN ROOM SHELVES: As I said, four iron shelves

I went to Eastside Trains today.  I hadn’t been there for quite some time.  Talked with Steve and Johnny for a little bit.  I asked the service repair  person about the possibility of obtaining the passenger car windows from MTH.   He essentially said that those type of parts are pretty hard to come by from MTH and suggested using a sheet of clear polystyrene and using Micro Krystal Klear to cement the cut to size piece.  So I left the store with those two items and an Atlas Trainman 62’ bulkhead flat car.

So Mike, have you ordered your brewery yet?

Sara, WOW what a huge room, How big of a layout are you planning?

Johan, very nice engine!

Yardmaster96, What a great looking room and what a lucky grandson! Nice work!

Ted, Thanks I will try and make them better, but I don't think that will happen till I ever get my adjustable track lighting!

Larry, sure sounds like you got some good advice from the service tech! No I haven't ordered it yet as things are tight and I have other things I have to take care of first! But thanks for asking! LOL

So the wife and I have to work the store Easter weekend so our employees can spend the time with there family! There most likely be any train room this weekend.

I really hope everyone takes time to have a great time with family and friends this Easter weekend!

Thanks Mike and Mark from the other day.

I did go downstairs today, and worked on the skirting for a couple hours. I finished the first 80' roll, and just started the second. I'm just about to start the curve at the end of aisle one. I took the camera down, but never took any pictures, and left it down there anyway. No big deal, you've already seen some of the skirting pics anyway. In case you were wondering, the skirting is still black.  We'll take pics on Saturday when Patrick comes over.

As part of my phone call with Atlas last week, I requested a part for one of my Maxi IV well car sets. Seems that one of the cars was packaged missing one of the articulated connectors. Not sure how it got out of the factory that way. I only needed the one part, but they sent me a whole set of them. So now I have spares.

I don't know if you guys will ever speak to me again.

We went to Guadalajara to a mall with the only two model train stores in the state, as well as two large toy stores. I wanted:

1) an N scale train with a large track

2) some tracks for electric Thomas the Tank Engine trains I had gotten from junk shops, open-air markets, etc.

3) An HO set that is not made by Bachman.

4) a dead rail set (battery-powered, remote-control)

One train shop was closed for the week. The other had nothing that I wanted. And a toy store had a 1226 piece Lego dead rail construction train with 10-speed Bluetooth control, a manually-operated crane car, two flat cars that can be built a variety of ways, several accessories, and a small add-on set, for a total of $250 US.

There are six books (BOOKS, not "pages") of assembly instructions, so I should be kept happily-occupied for a while.

SUNP0002SUNP0005Any why, pray tell, did it take me four hours to assemble these two high-quality Lego vehicles that came with the dead rail train set I bought yesterday?

Because the biggest pieces wouldn't fit into the proper bags, so they put them into another bag without telling me. (1226 pieces--Man, that took a lot of searching.)

I disassembled the HO track on the west side of MUK (My Underwater Kingdom).  Despite cleaning it with rubbing alcohol a few days ago, when I did each piece by hand I found some of them thick with black grit. It is the hardest-to-reach part of my lay-out, and I have more trouble with it than with the rest of the lay-out combined.

Someone on this forum suggested that I use a heavier loco on that track--because it is short and hard to get to a straight track, I have only used small locos on it. I'll try that on my next lay-out.

But on Thursday, we're going to Guadalajara and I intend to buy a new train!

Is it going to be a O scale?

No. I would prefer O scale, but the Cuddlee and I live in a small house. MUK exists on a 6' by 8' table.

Very understandable Have a Happy Easter my friend

Well I haven't been here for two days again!  Lots of great projects for sure!!!

Sara, Your train room looks great already!!!

Vincent, We wouldn't disown you!  It's a bummer you didn't have much success in Guadalajara, but the Lego items are great!  They sure have come a long way since the simple building block set I had in the '60s!!

Lew, that is a very interesting marking on the Wabash car! "When empty send back to Brian"

Paul, the latest roadbed is looking great!  I need some paint myself, but only had time to stop at the Ace Hardware store that opened up in the little shopping center near me.  I like to take business there because I don't want them to leave.  The privately owned store that was there since '58 closed a few years ago due to the owner's death and I missed it.  The slogan was "Your Favorite Store"  However, all Ace had was expensive paint bases.  I'll have to stop at Lowes and Home Depot to see if I can find a can of returned paint that will work for me.

I haven't  seen my layout since Feb 25th! Had surgery to repair injuries from an on duty incident where I was  hit by a drunk driver at a construction site 2.5 years ago. I will not see the basement  for 14 - 16 more weeks !

I have built my Plasticville kits and made repairs to some used kits I have. Drafting plans for an upper level and a passenger two track station off my main loop. The layout is 8x10.

I brought up a bunch of stuff to have  with me including my small N scale collection and I set that up on the dinning room table, it's not O gauge but I  can run trains and the grandsons love it!

And yes, I am going out of my mind with boredom!

I wish all members a very happy Easter and Passover.

Patrick, I bet you had fun running the Lake Shore Limited on such a great layout!

Lee D. I guess your going to have to slow down on the trailers or add onto your layout! Looks great!

Frank, Sorry for your injuries! That was my biggest fear while working for our local D.O.T . I wish you the best of luck getting back on your feet and back to your layout soon!

Getting ready to head off to work, but hope to get out to the train room later and layout some buildings to see where they might fit best! I really don't have a lot of room cause the tracks are so close together. But the wife and I will figure it out!

Everyone have a great Easter Saturday!

Lee- similar to Andy's technique I ran my road (thin corrugated cardboard) up to the rail edge. The gap across the rails is 1/16" balsa. Filled the gaps with gravel and ground cover.

Granted I'm not doing anything as complex as the LIRR Main Line- Oyster Bay Branch Interlocking

Well, here it is. This is the "beta version" as it's about 98% complete. I still have to do the number boards and I'm not wild about the horn MTH placed atop the cab. Might have to change those. This is the non-powered dummy that will go with the  NYC GP30 I'll convert next. Thought I'd practice on this one before I do it all again for the powered unit. At some point I'll dig out my airbrush and add some rust/weathering.

They add to our enjoyment of the trains, which, IMHO, is the job scenery is supposed to do, and you sure have that idea evidenced here perfectly. Congratulations on your success with this effort.

Hi everyone, I just handed out a boat load of likes! I would comment on all your great work, but I am just too beat! Just got home from the store after 13 hours of people wanting this and that! I love having customers, but heck were nice to them, give it back sometimes!

I hope you all have a great Easter and I should be in a better mood tomorrow! LOL

Vincent, at least they gave you some instruction books, there are times I got things with nothing! LOL

Mark, I know likes are good, but I really like to comment on people and the great work they are doing! You know give them an atta boy! But last night I was just too beat!

Well Im up early again getting ready to head to the store, I hope to get out of there early today so I can get in the train room and get the trim out on my Engine Building so I can call that done. Then I want to place some buildings on the layout to see how things are shaping up!

Everyone have a great Easter!

IMG_20190419_163634 - Crappy room

My work room without a layout. I never wanted to deal with a duck under, so I run the trains on the floor. Two stupid loops of O72 and one loop of K-Line 0-81 ShadowRail that is IMPOSSIBLE to find now.

The long story: Previous owner thought she was allergic to natural gas (yeah I know), so house was all electric. When the installers came, they insisted on running a new gas pipe (its to left of the duct). I wanted the job done right, so the ceiling drywall had to come down. The track had to get pulled up and pushed to the side. That gray table was to the right side. The gray table went thru a flood and was infested with mold and mildew. Pulling down the drywall filled the room with dust. Then, behind the gray table, orange mold. A complete mess. So I cleaned the walls with trisodium phosphate, patched holes in the concrete. Wife would not let me paint the walls or the floor, because it was cold at the time. So I am working on putting it back, and, gosh I am tired of having metal shavings fall on the track when I use the vise (unpainted wooden bench). I am tired of crappy lighting when taking pictures on the gray table. Tired of trying to fit the track between the legs of either table. But, the track fits pretty good under the Edsel shelves. Hmmm. Solution! Put one of the tables in the middle under the lights, and metal shelves around the edges. Voila! 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration.

Since this picture, the gray table is in pieces behind the garage. The trains in boxes in the corner will have to move before next winter, that gets pretty cold there.

Worked under my layout pulling out boxes of Atlas O Containers that I listed on Ebay tonight.  Listed some Atlas O H21a Hoppers too.  I am thinning out my collection, starting with the small stuff first.

Mom and I had a wonderful Easter.  She is happy to see the work I am doing to make the house easier for her to navigate.  I am changing the two step stairs to three smaller steps, and figuring how to do in indoor ramp if she needs it in the future.

Hope you had a Happy Easter.  It is nice to hear the birds chirping in the morning.

Sincerely, John Rowlen

Had a great Easter. Normally a quiet affair with just my wife's parents and the kids. We invited friends over this year who are going through a rough patch (her mom is in the hospital). We all had a great day and a great meal.

Then I won the auction for these

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful Easter Weekend! It turned out that there were not to many post yesterday so it should be easy for me to get up to speed!

LEE D. I would have to say that is one load I have never seen! I bet it got a lot of attention once it got on the layout!

Mark, you are correct about comments. A lot can be learned from what others have to say!

Johan, Great looking scene! Great job on the brick wall!

Michael T, Looks like a lot of work, but I bet its going to be very nice when done! Have you thought about insulation so you can use it year round?

John R. Sure is nice to hear how your taking care of your mom the way you do! I am glad you had a wonderful Easter!

LEE, Nice work on the lighting! Your right it really makes a big difference. I still have to get some track lighting one day, but the good thing is it is prewired for it!

Bob, glad you had a nice Easter and wow what a wonderful haul! They look Great!

Had a great Easter. Normally a quiet affair with just my wife's parents and the kids. We invited friends over this year who are going through a rough patch (her mom is in the hospital). We all had a great day and a great meal.

Then I won the auction for these

RSJB, am I correct in believing that those beauties are shark noses?

Ok everyone, I really need some help from you all! While I am waiting on more track, I have been playing with building placement and its really hurting my brain. So I took some pictures along with a track plan to attach here to see if any of you dare to chime in! All comments are great! On the layout on the lower section of the picture there is 11 1/2" from the front of the table to the track, then 3 " between the 2 tracks, then 9" between the 2 & 3rd track. I hope this helps. I don't have the footprint of the buildings right now but can get them.Train Layout20190421_17413620190421_17414220190421_17414820190421_17415720190421_17430020190421_174208                                          Any and all help would be great! I am open to ideas!

Thanks Guys.

Vincent they are Baldwin Sharks. The D&H ran them and it is one of the RR's that I run. Congrats on finishing the Lego engine.

Brian- keep hunting. They will turn up one day. I was going to slow down my purchases but I couldn't pass these up. The will look good pulling my set of coaches. The blue looks a little off but I can live with it.

Mike- I'm on my phone so it's hard to see the photos well. I'll take a look again later.

Bob
