Morning guys, gone 2 days and there is so much to get up to date on, but I am going to give it a try! So here I go.

Johan, great looking harbor ! I also love the photo of the switcher coming threw the tunnel!

Howard, its hard to believe you have anything to do on your layout but maintenance. You have such a great looking layout already!

Paul 2, Thank you! Great looking train, the layout is also looking great! It must be the attic layout! I don't see any laundry detergent! LOL

Lee D, nice video! I hope you can do something for your Arthritis!

Bryan, Love the new building! Great job, it will fit right into your night life!

Jim, wonderful job on the rock wall, I am guessing there will be a river coming soon!

Brian, nice photos! You have quite the blue and yellow Santa Fe collection!

Vincent, I don't know how you do it, put one up take one down and put another one up and I be after the holidays you will do it all again! That would just kill me! LOL

Bill, $ 197.80 sure is better then nothing for your train budget! One question thought is that after the CFO got her cut? LOL

Lew, The paint factory looks great with all the lighting, along with the lighting on your tanks! Nice work!

Well I hope to get back at the mountain today, but then again it all depends on what the CEO has planned for today. I know sometime we are taking Tank to the park but not sure when. I will let you all know how things go later!

I hope everyone had a great Friday and a wonderful Weekend! Please find time for your trains and layouts!

Good morning Mike.

I dutifully handed the $197.80 to the CFO.  Then I told her about the $800 I spent on trains last week.  The only body parts still working are my index fingers.  Seriously, she didn't mind too much.  She will use the cash proceeds to visit her son in Texas for Christmas.

We are getting real RAIN!!!!  I'm glad I finished putting permanent, safe, wiring in the train building last night.  Today, I will clean up the huge messes I made.  Once complete, my Father will come over to play trains.  He retired from Norfolk Southern in 1994 saying he never wanted to see another train.  He has warmed up to my O gauge adventures over the past year.  I will pre-stage everything so he gets to do some switching and then, all the running time he wants.  The track will be clean, all switches tested, smoke chambers filled, and cold Diet Cokes standing by.

One more thing, ROLL TIDE  Y'all

Bill

The Paint Factory tweaks in the light-of-day:

There are now six spots on that siding. The red box is storage off-spot. The yellow RBox is spotted for loading cases of paint. The gray P&LE tank is spotted for unloading resin (the gray storage tank). The black tank is spotted for unloading PVA (the yellow storage tank). That spot is also used for a covered hopper to unload Titanium Dioxide (white pigment in the white storage silos). That spot can also be used for off-spot storage.

I spent a pleasant two hours moving a bunch of stuff around so I could set up a plastic track for some battery-powered Thomas the Tank Engine locos. I bought the locos cheap at various open-air markets and now that I found the right tracks, I wanted to try them out Everything works great.

It's probably the end of the line, because everything comes down November 1 as I begin my Christmas display.

Mike, How did Tank enjoy his walk in the park?

Lew, you have a spot for every car on the siding!!

Vincent, Thomas looks good!  Looking forward to the Christmas trains.

Bill, Your wife sounds real understanding of your hobby!  I'm glad your dad can spend time with you and the trains!

Bill, The Tide is on a Roll for sure!!   Some people are going to have to lose a game for the team here in Pennsylvania. to have a chance at #1.  Of course the Nittany Lions have to make sure they don't blow a game; which has been known to happen.   We Are Penn State! Yunz!

Looks good Lew what a way to diversify such a small space very well planning

Mike g, good eye. It is the attic layout.

Johan, if you were closer I would send the switcher to Sharks Bay so it could get some good run time switching. I used the 5 finger crane to move it out of the way so I could take the pics.

Lee, I have to ask the question............what pig???

Brian, enjoyed the pics.

Vincent, always nice to see your pics of your lego layouts and all the lego buildings you find you find for it.

Today I spent the afternoon helping set up for the TCA show in Parma, Ohio tomorrow. I brought stuff to sell but not as much as the last time. So this time I have less to bring home with me LOL. My train order from Menards came in but I won't be able to pick it up till Sunday. I may decide to go to the Medina Ohio show on Sunday too.....................Paul 2

Brian, Nice reflection photo! Just wondering what your reflecting on!

Bill, I am glad things went well with the CFO! I really hope you have a good time with your Dad today! Spend as much time as you can with him!

Lew, Sure is a lot of action in such a small space! Really looks good!

Mark, Tank always loves the park, there is a lake there that he likes to play in until the water gets deeper then he is tall then he gets scared like a little baby! LOL

Lee D, Man isn't that true! I have 3 spiral tablets full of notes from this page! Hey on a side note I am waiting to see the revel of what your going to put in your open space!

Paul 2, LOL not as much to bring home depends on how much you buy! LOL I hope you have fun and sell everything you took there. That way your only bringing home new stuff to you!

Well guys I spent a good part of the day yesterday in the train room. I had to add a second coat of plaster to my removeable mountain cover cause when I took it off it was still a little flimsy. While I was out there I plastered the top section of the mountain and used that textured paint some of you have been using to paint your road bed to paint the small slope between the 2 tracks I did a couple weeks ago. Here are a couple pictures.

I wont get much done today I have a HOA meeting to go to and then we have a Halloween thing to go to this after noon at 3. But the good thing is it looks like tomorrow is train room and football again!IMG_20191025_100403993IMG_20191025_100415619IMG_20191025_150659615IMG_20191025_170430159

This one:

I'm so old I remember passing trucks with the blue-eyed Navajo on the side.

Thanks Lew!

I went out and got a little done this morning before my Board Meeting. I was able to get the round section of my Mountain off along with the top section. Now I can work on them in the garage and not the train room, Less mess that way! I still have clean up to do in that area and get my foil rock walls installed. But with the tops setup and moved now I can move forward in that area!IMG_20191026_072734609IMG_20191026_072836087IMG_20191026_072912130IMG_20191026_072754045

Lee - you have many possibilities with that space!   Can't wait to see what you create!

Lew - great to see your progression with the tunnel!   Keep those pics coming!

I only had time to run trains last night before turning in.  I wanted to get to the train room earlier but yesterday/last night was just too busy with work related stuff.  I'm planning to get to the train room tonight for an extended amount of time and get some stuff done.

As for last night, I did have fun just watching the trains run for about 10 min though!  Good times!!!

Wishing everyone progress and success with your various layout projects!

Mike g, I will say that I paid for the table so I broke even. Your base scenery is shaping up. When I got home my package from Ross Switches was waiting for me. Now I have the right curved switch to lay down some more track. Tomorrow I think I'll go to the Medina Ohio show then I'll get busy on the layout..........Pic..........Paul 2

Lee, yes, with the older version the Navajo guy was facing out instead of in profile and he had these startling (and completely wrong) blue eyes. IIRC early-'50s to early-'60s.

Took delivery of a Trainsounds tender from @Apples55 the other day.  Works great, and I have Evil Plans for the poor thing (though not brain transplants; my other TS tender has a different PCB board)...

Here it is with The Little Engine That Could, out for some exercise after last week's topic on resuscitating 1110 Scout engines...

GEDC1666

Naturally,  Road Supervisor Norma Bates Kitteh simply had to get into the scene...

GEDC1667

Did a bit of editing on my 1110; moved the whistle from next to the bell (where I'd originally mounted it) to a more realistic location near the cab:

GEDC1668

Norma settled down to watch the trains go by...

GEDC1669

And Chief Floor Supervisor Sylvia Siamese came in for some attention as well!

GEDC1670

Norma found the chuff chuff of the Trainsounds tender quite relaxing!

Lee, The kit will make a real nice industry, as Mike showed.

Mike,  I'm glad Tank had a good time.  He doesn't have to go out very far as short as he is, same with Annie!  The scenery is looking great!  The bright red grain building really grabs attention.

Lew, Ah yes, the Navajo!!

Howard, those are really nice looking cars.

Brian, North by Northwest as a matter of fact!  Hmmm, seems I've heard about that direction somewhere before!

Patrick, It's always great to run trains!

Paul, the switch looks great!  I'll need a couple more in the future myself.

Ran my new LIRR RS-3...... Had fun doing it Think it's time to switch out the RR's on the layout. I'm in a New York state of mind.

Mike- You're making some nice progress. The hillside is shaping up.

Gandy- nice score on those cars. I recently picked up a Timesaver car from a forum member. They are beauties!

Paul- more track = more space to run trains

Lee- Nice grain elevator

So glad that the tender works, even after being stored away for 20 or so years... even happier that it can sooth the savage beast!!! Now, it looks like you will have to clean your engine or grime up the tender

Wow... twin sons of different mothers!!! The blue isn’t offensive (unless foisted upon a poor beautiful unsuspecting GG-1)... you’ve done the razorback red to death... we won’t get into pink... How about a nice Southern RR Green scheme - I think that would look nice.

That is really cool... Fortesque must be ecstatic!!!

Mitch, That sure is a nice tender and your plans for it are quite impressive. I hope you are able to find someone to print your decals for you. Please keep us all updated on the progress!

Lee D, wonderful job on the box car! But I am kind of confused, in some pictures the box car is red and others it brown, but with the same logo. Did you paint it brown or is it 2 different cars! Either way if its 2 cars they both look great!

Well today is Sunday, so that means Trains and Football! But sadly for me it also means working on my golfcart. Yesterday while taking Tank for a ride it started smoking like an old steam engine! If you looked out the back while driving you couldn't see a thing! LOL

Lee D, if you can shoot me a picture of the area you are talking about I will shoot you one back of my grain building. When I get out to the train room, I will take pictures of all 4 sides!

Well I hope everyone has a great day and that most of your teams do well! Not to be mean but I hope the Atlanta Falcons don't do very well today!

7931207E-F77F-4DFE-8438-141BFE358DD9Mike. Thanks the car is kinda chocolate brown but changes colors in the light.
The only place is I need a pic is a side view where the rail cars go through. There’s a rectangle block mold in the base I’m going to eliminate that and replace it with something else I was just wondering if you did that? Thanks for the help.

Hi Lee, I did the same thing, I just cut a piece of wood to length and attached it to the support. I am heading out in a few minutes so I will get that picture for you!

Been busy this weekend.  Finished surgery (replacing batteries with BCRs) on my new 3 subway sets and my friends engines they bought at York.  got some great deals at Parma yesterday as well as the trading posts liquidation sale.  Took tons of pictures of the layout and especially my baseball field as I am doing a clinic on static grass and 3 rail in general for my local nmra division promo day next Saturday.  ordered viessmann 1501(google it) for another magnifying window trick scene in another building.  The best item I did purchase yesterday and will have lots of fun with is this homemade electronic sign and stand a grandfather and grandson build and sell at local shows.  Can get it to say anything so as you know Paul 2 is now worried. Lol

Ready to get to the day's work:

       IMG_4081

       IMG_4082

After the Last Call patrons had dined and the Dinner Train returned last evening the crew simply tied it down for the night at the old Depot. After lunch they will back the Dinner Train down to it's siding and drop it. Then they will couple up to the train of yesterday's pick-ups and head for Interchange. They will bring back today's train from Interchange and spend the afternoon setting-out and picking-up from the various industries. That work completed and the outgoing train parked on the East End branch behind the Depot the crew will fetch the Dinner Train to the Depot in time for the First Call patrons to board. First Call is at 5:00PM and the Last Call is at 8:00PM. Each trip out-and-back takes an hour, time for the chefs to prepare, the wait-staff to serve and the patrons to dine. It is a popular attraction and makes a few $$ for the Plywood Empire Route, it's train crew and the Dinner Train staff.

Thanks Mike for taking the time to post them.If you don’t mine I will screenshot them for reference and delete them when I’m done. On this side is where the trucks will go to load and unload. The farm tractors with wagons will go up the ramp into the building to unload thanks again

Changed my mind about going to the Medina show. Didn't want to spend the 5.00 dollars profit I made at the Parma show LOL. Ended up going to Menards and picking up my pick up trucks they had train stuff out but nothing I needed and I forgot to look for a train catalog while I was there. Guess that means another trip to Menards. And Mike g I will be working on the layout while I am doing some laundry LOL. Pic................Paul 2

Big day on the BRM RR.  My objective was to fix a O22 switch which would operate in one direction only.   I quickly isolated the problem to the controller.  Initial inspection showed a bad contact finger.  It was cracked at the base.  A hot soldering iron fixed that.  The switch is happy again.  While running my #1055 for testing, I discovered three of my switches would not do the non-derail thing.  Any ideas before I pull them out?  The fiber pins are in the right locations    My railroad must work correctly by Friday morning when my Father arrives to play trains.  I had the 4501 pull four Baby Madison cars.  I kept hearing a squeak when the second and third cars came by.  I oiled everybody and the squeak went away.  I'll see what Mr Greenberg says about the derail function tomorrow.

Say good night Garcie.

Johan, the yard looks great. One great scene.

Mark, very nice article on your Christmas layout........congrats

Mike g, killed two birds with one stone. Got some laundry done and cork glued down for the next section of track. Not sure now if i am going to add the switches I bought  this area. I might just put in some uncoupling tracks. Pics...................Paul 2

Mike g, killed two birds with one stone. Got some laundry done and cork glued down for the next section of track. Not sure now if i am going to add the switches I bought  this area. I might just put in some uncoupling tracks. Pics...................Paul 2

Thanks!  Yeah, my wife says I tend to OVER build things.    I had planned on using 1x4 boards, but got sticker shock at the prices so went with 2x4 boards instead.  Cost less and just easier for me to deal with.  It's a bit heavier, and it's definitely solid.  I'll probably need to climb on it to reach the back corners, so it needs to support me.  My daughter tried to wiggle it and it didn't budge.    The size of that bench work is 5'x8'.  I'm going to build another 5'x8' section, and then a 6'x8' section, for a L-shaped layout.

I have large swivel wheels under all the legs of my 9.5 by 19.5 table and am able to move it with a little effort. If you go this route go for a bigger wheel I used 4 inch  ones from Harbor Freight as the 2 inch ones I originally used didn't cut it. Nothing wrong with over building till you have to take it apart LOL.

We have a big family, and they're going to be gathering in Amarillo this week, for our oldest son's 50th birthday and costume party on Halloween.  They will be in and out of the train room all week, so . . . I cleaned track, and cleaned track, and cleaned more track.

Today, I'm putting together three short trains with very reliable locomotives, for everybody to run, and will lube and oil the engines and cars, as well as clean the wheels.

Johan, the way you did the yard scene with the backdrop makes it the look like it is deeper then it actually is. Very good and I like the  weathering job on the refridgerator car.

Lee, I really like the way you have been doing the All Nation cars.

Brian, great pics.

DECOYNH, good looking layout.

Mike g, watching your progress got me started on working on the layout again.

So this morning I got down early, pulled the nails out of the cork and painted the road bed. I'll let that dry and later, while doing more laundry LOL, lay down some track or maybe lay down ballast first. Pics Paul 2

Time to ship those potatoes, Johan.  It won't be long before the snow flies.

An employee at the Cape Shark Potato Company went to the doctor. The employee had a potato stuck into each ear, french fries stuck into his nostrils and a bag of potato chips  shoved into his mouth. "Doctor, what's wrong with me?" he mumbled.

Well, for starters," explained the doctor, "you need to eat more sensibly."

Bryan, Paul 2 is just going to love that! Next thing you know he is going to want one for his layout!

Lew, Nice setup and the best part is the story that goes with it! Nice work on both!

Paul 2, Those are some nice looking trucks! It was nice of the wife to let you unpack them before you took them down stairs! But I do have to say the time you have been spending down there sure looks good! Wonderful job on laying the cork and getting it painted! Your moving at record speed!

Johan, I know I am a day late but thats normal for me, The yard is not empty, it has a wonderful building and a great scrap yard! put them together and it makes a great looking scene!

Jeffpo, Great looking start! That for sure is not going anywhere!

Lee D, WOW you sure do take on some serious projects! I cant wait to see the finished product~!

Bill, I wish I could help you out, but to be honest I cant. Dont know anything about them!

Tom, Good idea on cleaning the track again and again and again! LOL The trustworthy engines wont hurt either!

Bruce, Great Job on the M-113 & M1A1! Great looking train!

I hope you all have a great night and an even better tomorrow! I know I am a day late, but sometimes thats how I work!

Vincent, you know there is always someone posting as I am getting my comments in! But I don't want to leave you out, so I think that you did a wonderful job on the ship! Then again maybe you have to much free time on your hands! LOL I really love what you bring to this forum!

So guys, I am sorry that I haven't commented for a couple days, I have been working a little on the layout and on home projects and by the time I come in I am so beat its time for a shower and bed. But I do want to get you all fine folks up to speed where I am.

So yesterday I pulled out the top of the mountain and center section and took them out to the garage so I could paint the undersides black. While the paint was drying I finished my foil walls for my tunnels, and did a little touch up paint on the little hill on the right side of my layout.

When I was done with that I pulled all the tape and paper up off the layout, did a little cleaning and  RAN SOME DARN TRAINS for 30 minutes!

This Morning I worked on gluing down low batting to the mountain parts and started painting trees I got at Walmart last year at the end of Christmas for .25 cents each. I also unpacked a train that I have been wanting to put out for along time but have been waiting. It a nice Coors train and I really like it and have to thank Larry Sr.

So here are some pictures to entertain you fin people! I hope you all enjoy and have a great night!IMG_20191026_072754045IMG_20191027_155339316IMG_20191028_153559823_HDRIMG_20191028_153633537IMG_20191028_153643401IMG_20191028_153406273IMG_20191028_153412250IMG_20191028_153354948

Thank you, Paul!!

These photographs and the later ones show good progress!  I’m glad to see you back at laying tracks again!!

Mike, The layout work looks good!  I’m glad you had time to run trains!!

With surgery a week away and so much to do for elderly relatives as many here know, I retired again!  I was going to be off a while anyway, and with clearing less than $250 a week, we decided to call it quits on my part time tech support fiasco.  43 years in telecom, and an entry level support job was the most dreaded time of my life!  It is a shame, the company is a very good one to work for, if you are in a position that matches your abilities.  So, I am joining the rest of you happy retired train guys 6 days before my 63rd birthday!  LOL

Mark, Thank you sir! I really enjoyed the time running trains for a little while!

I am glad you called it quits, its time for you to take care of yourself and lovely wife! I know you still have elderly family to watch for, but if you think about it, this is your time. I hope things go well with your knee replacement and you recover fast!

As you know I am semi retired due to health issues and only work for 2 days a week. But I am fine with that as that is my train money!

And THAT, Mike, is what it’s all about... congrats

Apples (Paul) You are so right! The layout may look like its been exploded a few time, but when I was running the trains everything else just kind of went away! It let my mind relax and just enjoy the sound and watching them go around and around! What get therapy !

I fixed all my switches!!  Thank you Mr. Greenberg.  They all had the same solder joint broken.  Before I could test, Mrs. CFO wanted to go to Lowes.  No argument from me.  We got what she wanted and I got a mess of #6 x 1 1/4 wood screws to fasten down my switch controllers.  When I got back on the mountain, I had a badly crushed box shoved in my mail box.  I got LEDs for all my O22 switches.  Only one broke bulb.  I have been waiting three weeks for these.  The seller was slow to deliver and rude in emails and on the phone.  I will pay more to buy somewhere else.  A quick bite of cold pizza and back to the train building.  My switch engine did the track testing, then both #1055 Texas Specials came out for more "don't tag".  I've got to video that.  I noticed last night that a light was out in one of my passenger cars.  I brought it to the big house for evaluation.  You have all been busy today.  Great work gang.

Mark, I retired three times before it stuck.  Enjoy.

Johan, we get snow about as often as you get hurricanes.  While working in New York, I saw enough snow for a lifetime.

Mike G, your good work deserves a train load of cold refreshments.

Vincent,  That pirate ship would make a great hood ornament too.

I stopped in a new antique shop about 15 miles from here.  They have a very old RR cross buck I think I need.  One with the cats eye jewels.  It would look great on the train building.

Bill

Johan

Lee D, Thank you and thanks for the invite to SWSAT! I didn't know it was called a calf and really don't know what it is used for or hooked up in the right direction. I just know it looks cool! LOL

Bill, Thank you! There is nothing ever wrong with a trip to LOWES! I am glad you were able to get all your switches fix and still had time to run trains! I hope the light in your passenger car is an easy fix!

Johan, It will be awhile before you see anything nice, but I sure am working at it!

Well guys I do hope to get out in the train room today, but first I have to fix my golf cart. For some reason it is smoking like a steam engine out the tail pipe. Not sure what it is so I am going to check the spark plug, the air filter, the carb and while I am at I might as well change the oil! LOL

Everyone have a great day and please find some time for your trains and layout!
