I recently got the mpc gp9 8250. This one is like my dad had when I was growing up. Bought the dummy unit and added lights. Bought some freight cars and away she goes!

Ran my new to me MTH guilford units.
A Weaver I-5 hauls older heavyweight passenger cars through a small town on my layout. The New Haven ordered 10 of these handsome streamlined steamers in 1937. The contract to build these was offered to Alco But Baldwin finally ended up with the order since their price was lower. Alco was approached a final time, but wouldn't budge on the price so Baldwin finally prevailed. Sadly they were all condemned and scrapped in January of 1951 much to the disappointment of the New Haven road crews.

Checking out the articulation and seeing how the “little Big Boy” does on the switches. The switch is right after a curve and I’ve read that some larger engines need a straight section before a switch to help prevent derailing. No issues here 👍🏼

The new Lionel Visionline Dreyfus Hudson!
Just kidding! LOL. That magnificent model that some of you big spenders are eagerly waiting for, is not available yet, but wait a minute, there is some truth to my proclamation.
You see, if you are like me, and not able to purchase the state of the art Visionline model, consider the fact that there are prior gorgeous and affordable models of this coveted locomotive out there.
Quite frankly, I'm quite content with my affordable, conventional running MTH Railking PS1 model shown in the above video. It runs smoothly, smokes and sounds great, and has run flawlessly on my layout for about 20 years. The only things I've needed to do are to replace the traction tires once, and install a BCR to replace the original battery. I think I paid $300 for it. Now that, IMO, is a good deal, and I believe similar good deals are out there.
Since I'm happy with my MTH PS1 version, it is, in a sense, my Visionline Dreyfus Hudson. Arnold

Ran a couple of freight trains.
Today a brand new pair of EMD F-3's from MTH, fresh from JR Junction in Syracuse, haul a load of empty hoppers back to Scranton Pa to again be loaded with coal and shipped out again. Units have good sound along with most other features. These were custom paint jobs as well,

The way things are going in this hobby I'm half way tempted to rip out all this digital crap and run straight conventional. Joshua Lionel Cowen had it nailed from the beginning......KISS. And his trains lasted 70+ years. It's getting to a point of enough is enough.

I was converted several years ago. I still have five command (MTH) engines I run occasionally. That compares with sixteen Lionel/American Flyers. I enjoy the old stuff much more and it's practically headache free. Come on over, my friend😁

Fabulous, outstanding trains and layout. What an abundance of space you, John, have for your layout.
This evening I ran one of my favorites: MTH Proto 3 New Haven FA units hauling modern and Postwar box cars plus a modern and colorful New Haven caboose.
That locomotive is always on my layout, either running on a mainline or parked on one of my 12 sidings. I have never removed it from my layout since I acquired it over 6 months ago from a local model railroader buddy in a trade I made with him.

PS: Our Forum friend, Bill Park, who is quite knowledgeable of the New Haven, has told me that the sounds of these MTH New Haven FA units are very authentic. One reason I'm sharing this is because there are quite a few New Haven lovers who are active members of the Forum. Indeed, I'm one of them.

Finished applying decals to 4 rdc's. Never could find MTH cnj RDC's that were reasonably priced. 3 williams plus one mth unpowered are now all labeled and correctly numbered for the cnj. And i only ruined one decal, that for me is a win.
Ran the GPD TTOM ore train today. Everything on the train was a custom run for the museum, only missing 2 ore cars to complete the set. Always loved the custom Weaver loco but never ran it due to lack of command and sound. That has changed thanks to Soundtrax! Anyway, here's the video of todays run!
Picked up a BNSF AC4400w a few weeks ago. Finally got a chance to test run it at the P&P layout today.

I have running some units that have never been taken out of the box. You'll have to watch the video to see which one I have been running all this week including today.

True. I'm not exactly close, either (about 42 miles each way). It's actually a bit closer than AGHR was when I lived in Orange County in California.

@AGHRMatt at one time ( back around 1991 I think ) I lived in the City of Orange, close enough to walk to Anaheim Stadium, But I worked at the USCG base on Terminal Island, boy was that a commute! LOL! Long before I got back into trains. Now I'm half way to Tucson, actually closer to the GPD museum than McCormick Stillman. I really enjoy both places though.
Ran the recently purchased 2037 with 6466W tender. The tender needed a lot of motor and chassis cleaning and some rewiring but the 2037 just needed cleaning and lubricating. https://youtu.be/k4fnqK_YAmI
I just added an Amtrak consist to my roster - one of the recent Lionel F40PH’s and 4 of the 21” Phase III coaches, including the cab car. I think Lionel did a nice job on these - the red, white, and blue stripes on the engine line up nicely with the coaches.
