Thanks guys - I'll be pulling freight mostly Don. I do have some unmarked K-Line 21" silver streamliners that I will probably pull around occasionally but is it Ok to admit that I don't particularly care for the prototype D&H cars for some reason?  These and the beautiful Legacy L&N E8s are the only 'new' engines I've purchased in several years now.

I got a kick out of your comment John, thanks - the R.O.W.s (photo below) were certainly nice pieces. I believe I read somewhere that they only made 50 sets. I had never seen another in all these years. They were so well-detailed at the time and quite 'correct' in so many aspects, yet it's interesting that they produced a B unit that the D&H never owned!

These new models are very reminiscent of the earlier ones to me.

Your new engine is very nice, but IMHO pales in comparison to your absolutely gorgeous Hellgate Bridge scenery. Sam, this is intended to be a high compliment to your artistic scenery skills.

Very nice, Sam...and congrats on your 1st 3rd Rail purchase!  I’m a sucker for the D&H (as evidenced by a lot of my posts here on the Forum), so that engine looks great to me!  I hope you’ll find time to post more photos when you unbox the second unit, and maybe even a video of them in action.

I’ve been so impressed with 3rd Rail’s offerings, and very patiently waiting to become a member of the “3rd Rail family”.  It’s only a matter of time that Scott offers a locomotive, road name and paint scheme that matches my wants/needs.  Keeping my fingers crossed!

Here's a shot of my old R.O.W. which was an amazing piece back in the 1990s. Operationally, it was a beast with twin Pittmans sans flywheels that required a deft hand on the 'brake'. I was told had I added the ERR Cruise that it would have been a vast improvement. The Alco sounds were pretty good and it had quite a few lights on the body like today's models. No interior. No smoke (an ALco must smoke) The bodies were brass (by Ajin) and the stainless finish was what really attracted me to them. MTH<,Lionel, & Wms were just silver painted...

The ROW locos are very impressive (tethers everywhere!; no dead spots), and can be had, sometimes, at plastic prices. I have the NYC and the UP - but the UP PA's have a date with my paint and decals - got to be GM&O (they had 3 PA's, no PB's, so I can skip painting the UP PB). One GM&O had no stripes for a while, so one will be in that simple scheme.

I'll frame-mount the pilots and remove the big UP number boards - and install ERR Cruise Commander - but, my gosh, where am I going to put the insulated TMCC antenna on these totally brass locomotives? The bodies cannot be insulated from the frames, I think, and it's not like I can put it under a plastic tender or coal load...I may have to have a "permanent" plastic baggage car and an antenna tether...

This is my 1st 3rd Rail purchase and am duly impressed. The interior is quite nice - the only one of my diesels that has one.  Tomorrow I'll unpack her sister and post some more photos. 

My love of the D&H paint scheme aside, that is one sweet engine Sam.

The D&H PA's are my favorite of all time!!  I find their livery to be gorgeous IMHO!

I am surprised that MPC Lionel did not make an O27 D&H train in the 1970's with the small ALCO cab units and 2400 type passenger cars.  And for a while Amtrak did provide a dome for the train on D&H territory.  However the red in the window strips and arrow were replaced with yellow.

Anyway that and a like VIA train their blue ans yellow would look great!

I close coupled these older Lionel releases and have been running these... DARN shame they never made some 18 inch or 21 inch cars for these.

Yes, Weaver made a 20" aluminum set if I'm not mistaken (may have been 18" however)  There was a set on eBay awhile back but they wanted a lot for them and they are pretty old pieces. Someone will have some in the future you would think?

ALCO, yes.  6400 type passenger, NO.  That como woyld have made a great set!

That's right Weaver did make a set that is nice looking  but very elusive... also they still have the silhouette people on the windows, and I am not sure about the grey/ white roofs and bright aluminum sides compared to the actual cars.

MTH cars are a bit better but still miss the mark:

The D&H paint scheme is one of my favorites.

As being a fan as well. I noticed that allot of Passenger cars were mix and match on the D&H.

I will never forget looking to find the Lionel PA B unit, it took a long time searching at various swap meets... only to learn there was never  a B unit on these...

J Daddy - I was surprised when I found a lone Lionel B unit and 'won' it on eBay some years ago for just $70 (no other bidders). I used to run it with my Lionel Santa Fe's and had intended to add some red striping tape to cover the blue stripe and apply a couple of indian head  decals...

If you are talking about the Alco PA's (#18 & #19) from 2003 in your post above, there was a B unit: 6-14586. This pic is from Lionel's website (if I had some free time, I'd try and find mine somewhere down in the basement!!!).

I did find one and purchased it... and ran it proud via pictures here on the forum... only to find that the D&H never had them.

They are nice and I hope GGD makes some cars for us here in the future.
