Just noticed in Lionel's recent update to their website shipment schedule... that the entry for the black UP 4-12-2 #9000 (product number 6-11343) now indicates that those shipped in May 2012 were a "partial shipment".  This better explains why I've been told by a few of the big dealers that they're still expecting more of these jewels to arrive within the next month or two.

The Greyhound #9000 and the black #9004 can still be found with relative ease, but the black #9000 -- while still out there -- is less plentiful, and many dealers no longer have them.  So hang in there if you're still waiting for your favorite dealer to come through for you.  Hopefully, the wait won't be much longer!!!

Hopefully too they also ran an additional road number in this overland scheme too...  It would make sence if they had to make another run of these...  The overland scheme was very popular...  Would make a great looking lash up!

I guess we will find out if the new catalog is out soon.  Fingers crossed on a second cab number!

That's actually what I'm waiting for too.  If not, I may treat myself to the #9004 that's currently out there.  But I'd much prefer another loco with the overland scheme (i.e., with its cool logo and white-trimmed driver wheels and running board).  Either way, the 4-12-2 will make a dynamite double-header!!!

While we're on this topic...  I'm also surprised Lionel did the UP Greyhound 4-12-2 in road number #9000 also.    I realize it's a fantasy "what if" situation, but they could have used another road number nonetheless, so they wouldn't have #9000 on two different locomotives.  Oh well...

Especially so since the #9000 series never handled passenger traffic..

That aside, it's a great engine with even better sound.

Has everything I love.   Big and ugly but decorated beautifully.  Smoke is timed perfectly with three cylinder chuff.. its just simply too cool, unique and different from every other steamer, you can pick it out blindly by sound alone..   And this beast has whistle smoke..

A keeper for sure...
