Any source for vanderbilt tender?

K-line sold one for smaller steamers at one time. It was a separate sale item and had nice detail. I have seen larger ones in scale brass on the bay. I don't think it would be hard to switch them to three rail. Don

You might contact Scott Mann, of Sunset/3rd Rail. He produced quite a few locomotives with Vanderbilt  tenders, and might have one left over.

Stevenson Preservation offers a few.

Here's what the K-Line #K-3540W Vanderbilt tender looks like.  I have one.  This is the one Scale Rail was talking about.  Matt

They regularly show up on eBay; I've bought 2 or 3 over the years. Often (but not always) 2-rail, but so what? That's why we have trucks and/or Hi-Rail wheel sets around. Even the Lionel Pre-War steel V'bilt tenders (as on a 263 2-4-2) are more realistic than they are not - just need a little fiddling (file and fill the big "rivets", if any) and some black (or GN green) flat paint. But there are more scale ones around. 

A lot of GN Vanderbilts were all welded.  Easy to make out of a wood dowel and some scraps.  Use a lot of sanding sealer.

In a bit I will post my wood block NP tender - a bit more complex than GN, but still trivial in wood.

You might want to check-out the tender that Lionel included with the 6-18056 New York Central Hudson.

It was based on a Great Northern prototype.

Okay.  I often do a wood mockup while building a locomotive, and once in a while the wood is every bit as good as brass.

The first tender is an NP Challenger tender - all wood except for obvious parts.  The second photo is my first attempt at almost anything in maybe 1980 or so - it is an All Nation Mountain type in 1 1/8" gauge with a wood tender.

Let me hit you with one more - this is a Lobaugh Mountain with a wood block Vanderbilt.  Understand, I have many more brass Vanderbilt tenders than I do suitable locomotives for them.  I just thought it worthwhile to keep this block!

I have the NYC one mentioned above that I would be willing to part with...trying to put together a different tender for that Lionel model.

One of the things on my wish list, wanted in several versions, all coal fired. Third Rail had a nice one at a couple of shows, but it was expensive . Amazing how so much obvious is not available in this scale.
