If you haven't seen Harry and the North Penn O Gaugers' layout, you MUST come see it!  Harry and his family ARE my LHS. I only met them a few months ago when I got into our great hobby and they have taken great care of me...as they do all their customers.

BTW, Harry, the bridge looks great on my table, thanks for the advice and the good deal.

The run at the Phila Art Museum was a big hit, we had lots of folks come over and compliment us on the layout and the trains.  The kids were three deep at times around the layout.  Only one kid related derailment, she tried to pick up a passenger car or two as they came by, predictable results.

We had a stream of folks coming up and expressing how great it was that we could do this, including the president of the Art Museum herself.  A good time was had by all, and my feet are aching from standing up for most of the 12+ hours!  I have a feeling that we may be invited back in the future.

Great way to introduce, grow, invigorate and infuse newcomers into the hobby!

After seeing club layout myself at Harry's and the club's setup at a firehouse town event last month (or September), I can see how folks, both young and old alike, would gather around to see the trains running.

Sorry, I couldn't make it to Art Museum yesterday, but choose to make my first visit ever to the Allentown First Frost show and after show devoted remainder of day to my wife who came with me.

If would be great if Phila. Museum of Art asked you back during the upcoming holidays and better yet if Philly's Franklin Institute would host your club's setup in the vicinity of that huge loco on display there.

BTW, gunrunnerjoh or hah3, when the club's next open house? Really enjoyed visiting during the first one you had and look forward to coming again when given the chance.

Replace "wife" with "girlfriend" and you and I had similar Saturdays!

I look forward to the open house, too!

Here are some more videos and pic.

It was amazing the one painting on the wall was worth 300 millon dollars wow.

most of the paintings were 50 millon dollars and up.

It was a long day running trains 12 hours like john said my feet were hurting.

Our next show will be at oaks PA for the great train show in jan 18&19.

we will have the hole layout.

then and open house Feb 16 at my house with Club layout.

Nice videos, Harry, but where's one of you and gunrunnerjohn energetically running up those art museum steps a-la Rocky style?

All kidding aside though (am I?), in the third video with the orange and black steam loco running on the inside track, they look to be scale coaches navigating fairly small radius curved track? What size radius track did you have them running on that particular track and what size was the outer track?

Looking forward to seeing the full layout at Oaks mid January and the club open house at your place February 16th, the week after the next Allentown First Frost meet. BTW, had the club members given thought to doing the open house a weekend earlier during the afternoon to evening of the first gay Of Allentown's First Frost show? Just figuring if you did it then that some of the OGR guys traveling to the meet could possibly make a short detour to the North Penn Ogaugers open house after trhe show closed for the day and before they returned home? Just a thought.(Who knows, some folks might decide to stop at Hennings Trains too.)

John, did the Wienermobile make an appearance?

The Wienermobile did indeed make an entrance.  About halfway through the show it picked up some thread or something in the truck, and we didn't have the tools to extract it, so it only worked a half-day.   OTOH, it got a lot of comments just sitting on the siding with the lights on.

I must say, the whole thing was an awesome experience and everyone at the art museum were such a pleasure to work with (except maybe one know-it-all electrician). I did feel bad for the one woman, she was a nervous wreck during set up. Dispute staying several feet away from the walls she just couldn't stand being in the room. The Van Gough was a $3.2 million painting along with several others worth close to or over a million each, (sorry Harry, not 300 million LOL) I can understand her nervousness. And most of the day there were 2-3 security guards in the room at all times but in the evening when things really got crowded there were up to 7 security guards there.

Once again, the whole thing was quite an experience. Nice part is, they want us back again sometime next year. I must say, it was our honor and privilege to be there and to have our work recognized as a true work of art.

Sorry, Harry, I was mistaken. Allentown's 2014 Spring Thaw is the weekend of February 22 & 24 -the week following your club's scheduled open house, not the week before it.
