Hi all. Hoping all are enjoying their memorial day weekend. I noticed on the Lionel 2014 Catalog the Berkshire steam locomotives. Are there any differences in detail between those as to the Polar Express ones that come in a Gold edition and original? I assume the Berkshire are scaled versions as to the Polar express ones.

Thanks for the information. If this has been covered elsewhere please let me know.

The catalog shows that the pilot on the Polar Express Berkshires (both gold and normal ones) are made to look more like the movie's prototype, with the elongated cowcatcher. However, the Polar Express versions will be scale sized just like the regular Berks.

Just like Lionel's earlier releases of each of the regular scale Berkshires (e.g. Nickel Plate, Pere Marquette) their pilots will be specific to their prototype, otherwise they will be as the catalog depicts them.

Good explanation, Thomas.

Many PE fans have been asking for a return of the scale PE Berkshire along with the scale sized PE passenger cars, particularly the Observation Car. After this catalog, I am not sure we will see them again anytime soon. If you want the Berk or passenger cars, this will be your best chance.
