Modified Lionel 655 boxcar. I wanted to recreate a child hood memory. The boxcar in this set couldn’t make the streets curves. I installed K-Line scale couplers on the 655 after cutting away the prewar coupler support.

Boston & Maine boxcar #73199 and New Haven boxcar #35238 ran behind my MTH Premier model of Providence & Worcester Railroad GP38 #2007 this week.

Well aligning with both @pennsyfan and @Sitka  with their pre-war Lionel 655 (Bob) and his early PW Lionel 6454 I thought I would go "early" today.

American Flyer, enameled 9 1/2" boxcar from 1938-39.  This was the last of the 9 1/2"  box cars produced by Chicago Flyer.

Yes...it is missing its brakewheel () Hey at 85 years old, I expect I will also be missing a few parts .

And for a little "foreign" flavor, a French Hornby SNCF Postal Van from the late 1940's to early 50's (about 1956)

@BAR GP7 #63- I know others have commented but your blending of background and scenery is superb.  The image of the light reflecting on the lake is absolutely beautiful.

Well it was Veterans Day yesterday but I thought I might continue our tribute to those serving just a little while longer.  I know I may have posted these guys earlier but I still thought it appropriate.

Yes I know its not a "box" car but I couldn't forget our folks in NASA and the closely related Space Force

And again, can't leave the Army out but I don't have an "Army" boxcar.

Hi Mark,

All three cars are Frank's Roundhouse cars. Many of the FRH stock cars had QSI sound boards added and were resold by Right-of-Way Industries or QSI. A great site for info on FRH and many pictures of their cars is the Robert's Trains website:

Lionel Double Sheathed

New York Central #92102 boxcar (model by K-Line) had an experimental paint scheme. NYC #161523 was a double-sheathed wood-sided boxcar built in 1919. The model is a recent one by MTH. It is highly detailed but the couplers don't fit well with older cars such as #92102 and are difficult to close by bumping another car.

Well after a long time search, I finally connected with a car that brings back memories of HO in the 1950's.  The "Old Dutch Cleanser" car was a staple in HO but I never could connect with one in 3-rail 0.  Finally I found an MPC Lionel car from 1977-1978 at auction and was able to get it.  I know its not rare but it brings back good memories to me...so here it is my Lionel #9780 Old Dutch Cleanser refrigerator car from Lionel (MPC) in 1977-78 & 1980

Note- the price stickers you can see on the box are likely from its original sale and read $9.86 and then the over sticker of $7.47 both from "K-mart" a discount variety chain in the mid-west (we used to live in Ohio).  I paid $13 at auction.

Being fashionably late…

Starting with a 19th Century car I picked up from a fellow forum member. I added details and weathered the factory paint scheme..the pic is in black and white…

Next, a MTH premier 40’ boxcar I repainted into Union Pacific. Trying to do more western roads for a while…Same car, different sides…

Next is a Weaver car painted by Bev-Bel. My home railroad…Buffalo Creek flour car..

@cbq9911a- Hey neat work.  Those 3/16" Flyer cars are they prewar hence 0 gauge or did you put 0 gauge trucks on post war S gauge cars?   I see them all riding on 0 gauge 3 rail track at least that is what it looks like.

The 3/16" Flyer cars are prewar originals.  The Marx and K-Line cars are modern cars with prewar Flyer trucks.

WAY late for this pre-Thanksgiving Boxcar Sunday, but here are two from Weaver

While there are other Weaver automobile, NASCAR and truck-themed cars, I believe these two complete my set of 16 automaker-themed cars produced by Weaver for Eastwood Automobilia. Thanks to @CAPPilot for showing his Tucker car that I was previously unaware of.

I really wish Eastwood had commissioned Weaver to produce some boxcars featuring "bowtie beauties" and/or other GM classics. They appear to have only produced this Chevy parts car:

There is a 1953-1/2 Corvette-themed car that Weaver produced for the 1993 "Das Awkscht Fescht," an annual antique and classic car show and festival held every August ("Awkscht" is "August" in Pennsylvanian German) in Macungie, PA that I would like to have although it is not part of the Eastwood series.

@pennsyfan and @Bill Swatos -  Bob/Bill :  Really neat displays of some cool boxcars guys.  Thanks for posting.

@Krieglok - Neat cars for 2 railroads I never even knew existed.  The "S.A.&S.P. is San Antonio and something (couldn't read it) so it must be in Texas right?  The "Buffalo Creek" I looked up and its the Buffalo Creek and Gauley and it operated in central West Virginia and ended operations in 1965 so I learned something for sure.  Great cars as always Tom.

The Buffalo Creek Railroad was actually located in Buffalo, NY. It was a pseudo terminal railroad for the city and the biggest customers were the grain elevators and flour mills that once ruled the city. It connected the major railroads that entered the city. The BCK was jointly owned by the Lehigh Valley and the Erie Railroad. The BCK was absorbed into the Conrail system in 1976.

The Buffalo Creek and Gauley was definitely a different railroad, being, as you said, in West Virginia…

Thanks Bill, I just picked up a new one myself. Hopefully it gets shipped in time for Sunday.

People my age or older probably had grandmothers who were born in the late 1800’s.  One of mine always started her day with a spoonful of Crazy Crystals in a glass of rain water from the cistern. She had a tendancy to keep the empty boxes, and I have one with her handwriting on it.  When K-Line introduced this boxcar I had to have one. Crazy Crystals have made a comeback in the form of bottled mineral water (at least, in Texas).

Yes but, it’s still Saturday. Oh well, here’s a box car that’s been running around on the layout since Wednesday. I’m sure you’ve seen these before, around this time of year.

Very interesting. Sodium and Magnesium sulfates act as osmotic laxatives and are used today for colonoscopy prep. I imagine things get "crazy" if one uses much more than a teaspoon in a typical 8 oz glass of water...

Here is my latest boxcar. It is a MTH 40’ car, I stripped and repainted. A mistake at the end of the finish needed to be hidden, so I added some very light weathering…
