Very nice, PDX! Now you need to buy one of those Artista standing conductors (item# 1111 or even better, #1374) and put him in the powered car cab.

The Lionel Archive Wabash F-3 A-A Prototype

When originally advertised in the mid-1950’s, Lionel had a much different vison for the paint scheme on their 2240/2367 Wabash F-3’s. They were to be much more like the real loco’s with black underframe, silver trucks, white nose, long bottom and short middle white stripes and tapered upper gray area. The prototype was painted this way and had the number 2240 on one side and 2367 on the other. The actual production units had a much more bland paint scheme and the Lionel prototype went into the archives. In 2017, the prototype surfaced when Neil Young auctioned off part of his collection.

1955 sounds like a good year to go back to.  I would never want to go back to 2020 or 2021. 

@pdxtrains I had to listen to the video announcement to know what Lex Express is.  All I could think of was Lex Luther!    Shows I've never been to NYC or any of it's metropolitan area. 

Why doesn't my MTH Pittsburgh Port Authority Transit PCC car announce Bouquet Street-Oakland for Forbes Field or Federal Street for PNC Park??????

Have bought various widths of 3/16-inch thick Basswood to cut out blocking to prevent forward and aft movement but must also prevent any lateral movement.  The last step after staining, painting and glueing to the flat car deck.

Recently purchased this Lionel Wheeling & Lake Erie Mallet for a bargain off the evil bay. It’s already weathered by the previous owner, which is a huge plus. Still pretty awesome being from 2001. It unfortunately doesn’t smoke well, and it needs ERR speed control and 4 chuffs per wheel revolution, which I’ll get to adding and upgrading soon.

UPS delivered my Lionel Legacy GP7 Texas and Pacific scheme today. And for once I was at home while it was being delivered (my family usually would make sure to handle it while I was at work, but I left work early today). I forgot to get a photo of it as it's back in the box, awaiting for me to take it to a friend's house to test it.

20210420_18334320210420_183346I purchased a K-Line Conrail caboose of the bay. The price was good and since I collect CR and NYC it was added to my collection. What I didn't realize was that I had one already, oh well, they are nice cabooses no matter what. The best part about this is that you never know what you are going to get. By that I mean I received the caboose new as advertised, so today I went to open it and out pops a paper about how to add fluid to the smoker. Smoker???? I look on the side of the box and it says nothing about a smoking caboose. I turn the caboose over and therein lies the on/off switch- Wow! So I go back and dig out the other caboose that I bought a couple of years ago when we were allowed to go to train shows and low and behold same thing- a smoker! Cool! Even better that I got it at a regular caboose price!

Hi Mark! I re-inserted the photo into the post. Please let me know if you see it now. On another note for grins and giggles I checked another K-Line NYC Bay Window caboose that I have had for a very long time, ran it alot, turned it upside down and it is a smoker also!!! I'm just glad the car comes with the switch in the off position. So now I have four smokers that I didn't even realize were smokers, the forth one is a K-Line.

I can see it now!  It really looks great!    Here is a photograph of mine.  It has smoke; the forum member I bought it from said it did.  Smoke is listed on the box for this one.  He had the smoke on-off switch on the bottom in the off position like yours.  Yours has the neat lantern marker lights on the rear corners also.  K-Line really made some nice cars and engines.  I have a few of their billboard reefers too.

I grew up about 1/4 mile from the B&O mainline from Pittsburgh to New Castle, Pennsylvania (the old Pittsburgh & Western line).  Chessie System was formed when I was a junior in high school, so I saw the transition from B&O blue to Chessie colors.  I started to see cars and engines with C&O and WM on them.  That is when I started reading up on the Western Maryland and now about 80% of my engines and caboose are Western Maryland.

GeoPeg I didn't read your previous post well enough.  Yes, I have purchased items I had forgotten I had.  Once, it was a car I had been looking for and bought a second less than a month after the first, forgetting I had one.

Just picked up this MOPAC three unit Lionel passenger car set to have something for my new Legacy PA-AA MOPAC engines to pull. The blue color is off from the engines, but a nice looking set, nevertheless. I understand there are two more passenger cars to the set which I'll be on the hunt for.

I added LED lighting kits from GRJ and Kadee long shank 746 couplers, too. I thought I would need the long shanks because of my O-36 curve layout, but in watching them run, I think I can use the standard shanks with no issues or re-mount the long shanks deeper into the bodies, which will give tighter coupling and look better.

Just arrived from MTH!

What manufacturers seem to have a really hard time understanding (with some notable exceptions) is that those of us who model the modern era are not looking for colorful or one-off pieces but rather fleets of generic, corporate rail cars that match what are out on the rails today.  These are perfect examples and I’m not surprised they’re selling out quick.  If only we could get more “boring” cars like these!

I dont run modern but watching the BNSF pull a string of 100 + matching brown covered hoppers is cool. They call it the worm train.

I hit that point where I finally got the last locomotive I wanted, a Southern Pacific AC9. I found a great deal on an unrun, MIB, TMCC version. I had to replace the traction tires out of the box (they were dry-rotted, replaced them with MTH tires) and I modified the smoke unit to put out more smoke. I think I'll swap the 2 lobe chuff cam for a 4 lobe cam, maybe add a CC-M later, and call it good. I'm not really looking for anymore locomotives after this one. It would have to be a great deal or something from a road I model (ATSF or SP) or really out of the ordinary for me to even consider buying another locomotive.
