@Richie C. posted:Picked up this Maine Central box car in green livery at the NE Train Expo in Marlborough, Mass this past weekend. I have a lot of MC rolling stock in yellow/orange colors, but this is the first in green.
Interestingly, there are no markings on the car to indicate who is the manufacturer. It's very well done and comes with plastic thumbtack couplers. Its larger than Lionel/traditional; I'd say semi-scale.
My Lionel BTO UP F 3 AA set just arrived at my dealer, so I'll be posting a review on that in the near future.
Hi Richie,
It's a Frank's Roundhouse car (FRH), made by Frank Rash and his son, Jack, in Wilkes Barre, PA, back in the 80s and 90s. If it came in a box it could have been a generic white box with identification on the end (it's # 41) or a KMT orange, blue, and white box. More information about FRH, photos, and a spreadsheet of FRH's production (well over 100 boxcars/reefers, 21 FM Trainmasters, passenger cars, etc.) are available at:
https://www.robertstrains.com/Frank.htm
FRH also decorated a Maine Central boxcar in orange (FRH # 42).
Regards,
Bob
Illinois Terminal GP7 1605. This is the GP-7 preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum.
Just got this from Trainworld a few days ago. I'm looking forward to getting the cars that are on backorder.

Thanks, Bob - good to know. The seller had two versions - one brand new with a box and a used one with a little road rash with no box, that was cheaper. I opted for the cheaper version and cleaned it up and detailed it after I got it home.
The box was under the new one, so I never got a chance to look at it, but I believe it was a generic white box with printing on the end, as you noted. The only thing that threw me was I think it may have been printed, "Waltham, Mass" on the end.

THEN....... Found this MTH SW-1 w/ PS2 on the FS forum. I've been wanting a SW-1 for a long time. This one seemed to fall in my lap. Fits in perfectly with the N/E roads that I run.

" This one seemed to fall in my lap " Funny how these things happen around this time of year Bob.

Thanks Bob . Pretty sure they will be making Judy's Christmas much better.
Now I will wait in anticipation for RSJB18 's photo and videos of the new purchases on the layout.
just picked up my Erie hobo car from Lionel... nicely done.
one of the sound bytes is a copy of dialog on the kitchen car. ("best wiener i've ever tasted")
@PRRick posted:Christmas came early!! This popped up on ebay for $150 buy it now and I couldn't pass. It's cosmetically excellent, but missing one tender marker light, one engine marker light doesn't light, and the rear tender truck is attached, but is loose. It runs/pulls great and I couldn't be happier.
Wow, @PRRick, you stole that ! Very nice score !
@Soo Line the chickens are a product put out by Viessmann. I camouflaged the base with the ground cover.
@Jack Texas Special the colors on that Carolina Aberdeen & Western F9 set are fantastic; I was in my LHS a couple of days ago and I saw the set on the display shelf - they were having a 20% off sale that day - sold. The 2 car set was also in stock, so I guess I was just plain lucky that day.

Bob, not one to sound out of line, I am just concerned about the number of switchers you have for your layout! If you're not careful I could see the CEO calling all your friends and Family members for an intervention!
I am just pointing this out for your own mental health!

Dallas, what a great heart! It is always nice to bring special joy to the ones you love! And who knows, maybe you will even get something train related for Christmas!

I think it's too late for that Mike. The trouble is when I build a bigger layout one day I will have to start adding road engines. 👍👍
Besides, I've already been busted for the new accumulation of empty boxes that have mysteriously appeared in my basement. 🤣🤣
Thanks for looking out for a fellow modeler.

Sorry I was late! I have the same problem, but with the train room in the garage, I just bring the stuff home in the car, back into the garage and from there to the train room! LOL
@Donnie Kennedy - I agree with you Donnie, I love my Southern Crescent. OBTW considerably after the 1977 introduction, Lionel offered a matching diner to go with the set. I got mine new in 1977 but I was 33 at the time !
@Dallas Joseph - just read about Judy's Christmas present. I hope those pups bring you both great love and joy. Merry Christmas.
