Yes I’d be in for getting the upgrade on the Cab2.  I don’t have widows now and can’t do it with the iPad.  Is anyone going to be doing the upgrade at YORK.  If so where?  Thanks again.

Hi Laz

I'm open to do upgrades but if I need to make modules I will need 2 writable modules (or 1 if upgrading a Cab2).  If you just want to bring you base (if needed) or both Base and Cab2 I can do that as well.  We could probably meet in the orange hall lobby between the main entrance food stand and the orange hall meeting room just past where the LCCA layout setup is.  Time around 11am to noon?

If I don't have to make modules and use mine i can at least keep my PC at home but am fine bringing it.  I will also bring my base and Cab2 to test the upgrade.  Everyone is welcome.

Well, I won't have a Legacy command base, so I was figuring on using my modules to do any upgrades.

Agreed and completely understand the position- they are 2 different tasks.

Writing the update to someone's writable module requires:

#1 a good writable module

#2 a Legacy base and power supply

#3 either a serial to usb adapter or LCS wifi module and cable system to connect the base to a computer. Some people even go direct serial cable to a computer with serial port. Basically, 1 of the 3 ways and all associated components.

#4 A windows computer with the Legacy System Utility and downloaded copy of the firmware update.

VS

A pre-written module carried to the show, that you loan to the individual to update their CAB2 while standing in front of you.

Writing the update module is the hard part, using the module to update a CAB2 remote is trivial by comparison.

Well, since I had to write the modules to have them, I do completely understand the difference!

I meant folks asking for you to help them write modules at York.

Thanks to all. I’ll bring my black module and look you up. I just can’t get the download to work with my laptop.

Implying that someone (you) would be bringing a computer, legacy base, power supplies, and cables, then setting all that up to flash modules.

My point was, that's a huge ask of anyone going (traveling) to York.

Again, I'm saying, I could not blame anyone for turning that down (bringing that much equipment) and saying no, I'm (only) bringing programmed modules for people to borrow and update remotes right there at the show.

The base is at 1.60 and cab2 is at 1.70 now.
What is the difference in 1.70 to 1.72?

Thanks.

Yes, 1.70 was general corrections and updates, but more importantly that compatibility with base 3, however, in this version, they broke some functionality with the TMCC and Legacy crane cars.

So, 1.72 specifically fixed the crane car bugs and gives you base 3 compatibility, so that folks who had crane cars and reverted to a previous version could now update and have a correct base 3 compatible version.

I did volunteer to bring everything I need to create modules (supplied by the hobbyist)  and / or upgrade bases and Cab2s and in my opinion it's not too much an ask if it helps out a fellow hobbyist.  I'll have my laptop and 990 system.  What's 45 minutes of my time if I can help.

Bravo and well said. BUT! 45 minutes of time at a York show for someone only coming one day is a lot. Especially if you do more than one upgrade. I need every minute to be able to see everything and that doesn't include meeting people. LOL

Marty I am extremely happy that you are willing to do this for a fellow hobbyist. It IS what the hobby is all about. Sharing knowledge, being willing to help and spreading the availability to have fun with trains. Thank Yo SIR!

AFAIK, I didn't imply anything.  I specifically said I'd have the upgrade modules, not the whole rig.  Space is at a premium in the booth, and Henning's would probably take exception to me setting up the command system, a computer, etc.

I can bring some upgrade modules and do a few at the Henning's Trains booth in the Orange Hall.  The upgrades themselves, assuming you have the modules, are very quick.

I won't leave anyone hanging.  If they find me before the 45-60 minutes is up on Thursday and Friday, I will get you done.  After all I need to see everything and meet people too!  LOL!

OK folks here's the deal...

In the Orange Hall Lobby to the right of the center entrance between the modular layout and the meeting room, I'll setup somewhere on both Thursday and Friday.

Thursday will be from 3:30pm to approximately 4:30pm Friday will be between 11:30 am to around 12:30 pm.  I'll be departing Friday so I would like to make another pass in a few halls Friday afternoon so try to make it between those times on Friday.

I will have everything I need to create and test base and or Cab2 modules (you will have to supply 2 writable modules or 1 if you just need the Cab2 update).   I will have my PC and a 990 system to make and test before you leave.  Here is GRJ's Make a Writable Module thread.

I will also have a Base and Cab2 module for those who want to bring their 990s.  GRJ also said he'd bring a set of modules and will be at Henning's booth (check with him for times).  Between the 2 of us we should be able to cover everyone.   From my end, I only ask to try to get there before the end time so I can get you in the que.  If you know anyone on other forums that needs an upgrade point them to this post.  All are welcome.

If for some reason these times don't work for you we'll figure something out.

I just cooked two sets of update modules, the second in case one develops an issue.  I also updated my base and two CAB2's with the new modules to test them.

Drop by the Henning's Trains booth in the orange hall with your command system if you want an upgrade.  Note that I don't have any parts of the Legacy command set there, so you'll need your power brick with the command base, and a good set of batteries in the CAB2.

I just reloaded my Cab and Base from the modules I will use for upgrade which were freshly made from the laptop that I will be making modules if needed.  So the entire chain has been tested.

If you are going to get updated by me try to be there about 15 minutes before the end of the hour of time I outlined above.

Again this is for anyone whether on this forum, another forum, or whoever.  I don't think you'll have any problem finding me.  From the post above...

Last reminder...

The Legacy Users Group (aka Me) will be updating Legacy Systems and/or Cab 2s to Base 1.60 and Cab1.72 on Thursday and Friday at York.

In the Orange Hall Lobby to the right of the center entrance between the modular layout and the meeting room, I'll setup somewhere on both Thursday and Friday nearest to a working outlet.  This will be free of charge of course but a handshake and thank you is always appreciated.

Make sure your CAB2 has batteries!
