Can Cab 1L control orig Powermasters?

The only thing that can talk to the original Powermasters is the CAB1 or the Legacy PowerMaster Bridge.  However, if you use the PowerMaster Bridge, you can't also use the old TMCC command base, they'll get confused as all the commands will be going to both of them.

Johns right. If you just use the cab1 to control the powermasters for conventional operation ONLY then the cab1 would work with no TMCC base in the mix. Add a powermaster bridge to the Legacy or Cab2L base (with no TMCC base) and all the controllers will operate the powermasters.

I have a question about using Legacy with TMCC. I now have the Legacy Cab 2 and base, it is wire with the Command control base so my TMCC handhelds communicate with the old Powermasters. If I should decide to replace the Cab 2 and base with the Cab 1L will I still be able to wire the Cab 1 base to the Cab 1L base? Does the Y cable also come with the Cab 1L?

The old TMCC command base has nothing to do with communication with the original PowerMasters. You can remove it and the PowerMasters will still respond to the CAB1 remotes.  If you want the Legacy remote to handle the old PowerMasters, you'll need the Legacy PowerMaster Bridge.

The communication with the PowerMasters is direct from the CAB1 to the PowerMaster. 

Note that this does NOT apply to the new Legacy PowerMasters, they are controlled by the track signal like a locomotive.

Thanks for the swift reply. I did mis-speak, my question should have been in relation to my TMCC Cab 1 communicating with my TMCC engines. I think this was the need to keep the TMCC base in the system.

Correct, the TMCC base sends the serial commands over to the Legacy base and it ships them out on the track signal.

Do you know if the Cab 1 Command base can be connected to the Cab 1L Command base?

From all I've heard, the answer is yes.  I haven't actually tried it, but I've been assured that it works.

With Cab-1L in the set up will I be able to use my original Cab-1?? I want to know if the Cab-1L base would superceed the older TMCC base.

BTW thanks John for the tip on the antenna, I bought one on the bay.

I've been told that the old TMCC base will connect to the BASE-1L serial port and allow use of the old CAB1 remotes with the CAB-1L remotes.

What happens if you have a couple of CAB1's, and only one CAB-1L.  Now, A couple of your close friends come over to run trains...

   I pre-ordered the new Legacy base/charger & hand held remote unit, must I also purchase a Legacy Power Master?  I thought the base unit of the new Legacy controlled all the different kinds of Lionel Command type engines.  Did I misunderstand this Lionell engineering.  Please explain to me how this Legacy works.

The PowerMaster is for conventional engines to be controlled from the Legacy/TMCC remote.  For Legacy/TMCC command engines, all you need is the Legacy #990 System.

   Thanks once again I appreciate the knowledge.  I was looking at the Lionel 264 Tin Plate train set, with the 262E engine and was advised that I needed a Legacy Power master to run that particular train set.  It must really be a conventional train with sounds and operating doors on the baggage car.  If that is the case I would be better off investing in the MTH P2 version of that particular Tin.

This is exactly why I raised the question, there are still a lot of the Cab 1 units out there and that is all some folks have, the TMCC system.
