I'm assembling a circus train to run at a museum and would like to have the "little engine that could" look. Using a 4-4-0 or 4-6-0 pull a string of boxcars, flatcars and passenger cars. I have a number of K-line Ringling Bros 18" passenger cars and some flatcars with circus wagons and several boxcars . I'm now looking for a strong engine to pull the load. I have a MTH 30-1160-1 DRG 'beehive' that sort of matches the yellow on the circus cars but am unsure it can pull the number I have in mind.  I would test it on my home track but it is under construction.

My questions are

== Will my engine work or just sit and spin?

== What small engine could pull a long circus train?

== Can a motorized boxcar or passenger car be used for a helper?

== Does anybody build one?

Thanks

mark

Far as I know they're all black.  But you have to remember, the (real) circus did not own their own locomotives, but had their cars pulled by the motive power of whatever line they were on.

I'm sure someone has done a helper car as you describe, but I don't think you really need one.  I'd think a Budd car would be ideal for this though.

For a real Little engine scenario,  I'd put your 10 wheeler or Mogul at the head of the train, then have a K-Line Porter pushing at the end.
