I don't know what to say about this except some people have a great deal of money and will get what they want regardless of the price: (I never heard of a clear shell #50 but still).

Clear shell no. 50 just sold for $25500 at the Stout Auction - three way bidding war!

I don't know about that car man, too many questions.                                                                                                                                   a.) That plastic looks too clear to me, I would think it would be yellowed more by now just with time. There are very nice reproduction available now and it would't take too much effort to run a few off in clear plastic.                                                                 b.) If it was a 'salesman sample' I would think it would be from the first run, with gray bumpers and the men in reverse colors.          c.) I looked closely, and the men do not look like originals. The figures are too rounded and the paint on the face looks too good, exactly like the reproductions now available.

d.) I have never read or heard of a clear shell #50 in any collector book.

I hope the car came with strong province.

Sort of reminds me of the money laundering scheme portrayed in the Hugh Grant movie Mickey Blue Eyes. (I had to look it up).

Essentially, worthless paintings were being auctioned and generating huge sums of money.

(Though I have to admit before the commentary here, I didn't know if this was a real PW prototype or not)

^ What Chuck said.

And if anyone is really interested, you can obtain one from the guy that had the 50 Gang Car bodies made:

So does anyone know if it was sold as an original or not?

We saw 30 minutes of a car auction this weekend and that's exactly what a friend said about the prices paid.
