I have a ERR Cruise M installed in a Lionel SD60 command controlled engine (pre-odyssey).  Straight forward install as it is almost a direct replacement.  With the board installed, I no longer have any sound features other than the engine idle sound.  The engine idle sounds come on immediately when power is applied to the engine.  I do not have to enter the engine ID number even if I was running an engine with a different ID.   It is almost like some of the engine is in command mode and sound is in conventional mode???

The announcement, bell and horn, and couple release do not sound.  The volume control from the Cab 1 does not work.  All other features such as smoke unit, coupler action, speed control all work fine.  I also found I must disconnect the serial communication wire (blue) from pin 24 of the radio board in order to change engine ID or to reset the engine.  If I do not remove the wire, the engine ignores run/program switch position.  When I disconnect the blue serial wire, all sound features work fine.  (Speed control does not work due to the communication wire removed.)  Does anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong?  I am emailing back and forth with Ken (tech support).  He asked that I verify there is no short between the pin 23 and pin 24.  I confirmed all is OK.

Help!

Jon,

I received some feedback from Ken who is the support person for ERR.  The radio board version I have is R2CL-07C which is not compatible with the Cruise M controller.  The radio board has to be ver. C08 or higher.  So I have a couple of options.  Replace the radio board with a later version or reinstall the original speed controller board with its poor performance.

Just for information the version of the Cruise M controller is CM-6.0A

Thanks for all your help and let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Best,

Dave
