They were finishing it up last week. As far as knowing what is in it; you won't hear leaks. A few years ago I was at MTH and passed by a chrome 400E set sitting in the floor between Andy's office and Rich's office. "Is that for the new tinplate catalog." The reply was  " I don't see anything." They may show you the front cover but beyond that they will keep it a secret.

Well I see a premier big boy on the cover. Maybe we’ll see some newly cataloged premier steam for the first time in over 3 years. I’m Looking forward to it regardless.

Where did you see the cover with the BB?  Or is that wishful thinking on your end?  I myself have no idea of what I would want.  I guess the pictures will have to grab me.

Subscribe to the MTH O-gauge email newsletter.  The 2020 v1 cover was there in the Sept 25, 2019 edition.

"September 25, 2019 - M.T.H. mailing list subscribers, M.T.H. Railroaders Club members (MTHRRC) and any others attending the 2019 Fall TCA York Meet in York, Pennsylvania can avoid the wait for the U.S. Postal Service by picking up the 2020 Volume 1 Premier & RailKing catalog and a selection of other M.T.H. previously printed materials beginning Thursday, October 17th at 12:00 noon."

MTH 2020

Oh Boy, another Big Boy, Really.  I see a ton of pre-orders there.  I would be really surprised.  But.....

I find it really hard to believe the market is there for MORE Big Boys. I'm sure there is a boost in sales thanks to the real one running on the UP but it seems like every catalog for the past 2 years from MTH has had Big Boys in both Railking and Premier. Doubt forget the various renditions offered by Lionel lately. Maybe I'm wrong and there is a market but I kinda doubt it....

....I'm REALLY hoping for a bit of a resurgence in Premier steam. There is a LOT of stuff that hasn't been done since the PS2 5-volt board days. The D16 4-4-0, DD1 Electrics, and others haven't been done in at least a decade or more. I'll preorder both. I want them! The Premier steam end of the catalog has just been copied and pasted over and over and over.

I think your last sentence nails the situation. They've got stuff they are trying to unload (bigboys.) And the market is saturated with stuff. MTH probably doesn't see any ROI for new Premier steam at the moment. I tend to agree.

It would not make sense to produce more when you have a glut.  I could only seeing them offered with new markings if they changed the existing inventory to the new markings.  That does not make sense either.  Hopefully there will be some nice surprises.  Haven't seen a WOW! in a while.

I thought Lionel was doing something here, in the Hew Hess Hay (what a radical thought!), with some kind of hybrid model...but, and l hope l remember this wrong, it was not a new and different prototype, as some of us have been whining for, for a decade or more.  But  it might  lead to more variety. I remember when Kline was  dumping "stuff" (and sacriligiously generating new prototypes), l heard a dealer complaining about too much "stuff" THEN! when "stuff" was already too much recycling the same few recycles.  I have long since pushed all that recycling to the curb, to await the garbage truck, and want something new and different. It is like the Model T built from 1908 through 1927...19 years of the same thing!  Except then there were dozens of other auto makes and choices ( l know; our aging demographics won't support it). Frustrating...

I would love to see MTH do the Amtrak E-60 electric locomotive which they were going to do back in 2000 but was canceled. Would be nice to see MTH produce this locomotive.

Bob, I’ve been leaning on Scott Mann from Sunset Models for some time now to produce the engine. With their scale amfleet cars being offered its a logical pairing.

If enough folks show interest in the project it would be a go, so I ask you please reach out to him, along with anyone else who would like to see one, it can happen.  It would be a plastic, not a brass model.

Those of us who have been in the hobby for decades and who remember the years before the 1990s or so generally recognize how very lucky we are with the genuine wealth of "stuff" available today. I look forward to every new catalog, and invariably find something I like and want to have. I'm just glad these guys are still around today to serve this great hobby.

I hope they do a better job with the sound file than the 2017 Premier Big Boy, that whistle sounds like a wounded cow, and certainly nothing like the real Big Boy whistle!

It's Western Maryland 734's whistle from 2006.
