the weaver sd40's are my favorite.in the past 10 years i have collected 15 of the16 roadnames[+ the rio grande-uncataloged]. i use to run them all the time until p2 came along.-jim
I like em !! they run smooth and quiet
I have a Conrail unit that will get repainted most likely. Good locos....more rugged than some early Weaver locos.
Thanks for the input
Very helpful, Gary
The Weaver/MTH models are actually an SD40-2, not an SD40. The prototype SD40 is about 3 feet shorter, and as such the SD40 doesn't have a long front and rear platform or "porch" as the SD40-2, which is the biggest spotting difference. The reason the SD40-2 was longer was because of a new truck design (HT-C) that resulted in a longer wheelbase than the older Flexicoils. The other spotting difference is that there is a water level sight glass on the engineer's side rear hood of the SD40-2 that the SD40 didn't have. Their dynamic brake blisters are also slightly different.
Did Mike's Train House get the molds for their Premier SD40-2 diesel loco from Weaver, like they did with the V1000 and RS-11 diesel locos?

Great equipment; built like tanks; simple. Easy upgrade to sound, command, and/or
easy to replace reversing unit if need be, if you prefer conventional. I've
seen them go for $100, maybe less, NIB. I have only one, and one day it will be
upgraded.

I have been looking and comparing But it looks like to me not only the MTH SD40-2, but the RS11, ALCO 630/628, UB28b, RSD12 and some others were originally from weaver but with additional detailing . That would make the weavers comparable to the pre 2000 MTH premier line and current RK Scale engines. Is there anybody out there that could provide more info.

answer is yes, sammy in the orient, that made mikes tuff ,made the weaversd40's. when mikes took that over ,they screwed up, putting that god-awlful truck on their engines with the inside blind flange wheel.if you own and run both you know what i am talking about.-jim
