Hello everyone, I haven't had much time to tune into the forum lately, I'm just to busy which is a good thing. I'm sure I'm missing a ton of great threads. Here's two very short video's of two diesels. The UP, I rebuilt the smoke unit same value resistor, and the Conrail was conventional and I added full ERR with sound, front and rear electro couplers, and a brand new smoke unit. These units smoke like crazy, Hence the title of this thread. LOL

Rich couldn't agree with you more, Any of my own Diesels I run on my layout, are run with the smoke unit off or on low. I'm really a steam guy and I run my steam engines with the smoke set on max.

 

 He said he wanted smoke and I gave him smoke, the customer is always right !!! LOL

There once was a time when diesels smoked just enough that you could tell that a unit back in the consist was at least running. Not any more. The new diesels hardly smoke at all, even in the 8th notch. Now, if you think a unit back in the consist has shut down, you can't determine which one it is by looking back to see which one isn't smoking. You have to go back and check them out.

Because some folks enjoy them as toys.  Some as models.  It just depends on your perspective.  Not everyone is going for prototypical operations in all aspects of trains.

Amen.  I love my toy trains, and I love seeing the smoke.

Hello everyone, I thank you all for the great comments, and input, I appreciate it very much.

 

There's honestly no secret that I have LOL. What I do is drill out the intake air hole

just like Mike Reagan does, I set the resistor a bit deeper into the batting, and I use

JT's Mega Steam. If the smoke unit is 6 or 8 OHMS I leave the resistor value the same, if the smoke unit is 27 OHM'S I drop the value of the resistor to 24 OHM's. That's exactly the way I do all my smoke units. I think I have the Smoke god's on my side. LOL . Also remember I learned everything from the pro's on this forum, and I put it to good use.
