Found these old plans (sketches, really) from when I was in Ho scale in my archives... Thought some of y'all would find them interesting and/or inspirational.

This is plan was based off of the golf links plan from the 1970's, and another one that was set in South Carolina. However, this plan goes from Savannah, GA, to Chattanooga, TN, passing through the fictional townships of Drover's Creek, Tyler (which where the connection to Stink Pit is made), and Cherokee, while having a branch to Stink Pit mining camp.

This layout was set in the Appalachians, probably Virginia or Tennesee, and was based partly off of the Gorre and Daphetid. Rockfish and Creek Valley, the end termini, are combined here in the upper left. The trains depart one terminus (we will use Rockfish for this example), depart for the west (right) to pass through Dodge, where the connection with the Mt. Davidson Logging and Mining Co. is made, before going onwards to Franklin. From Franklin the train goes through a series of tunnels, as well as crossing over the Souix River twice and Cherokee Gorge to pass through the ski spot of Le Chautue, which is really just a hotel, built in the Russian style, and a station that is of a similar theme. From there the train departs to Cherokee Valley.

In addition, there are two branch lines: one goes to the logging town of Ulysses, via a switch at Franklin; the other, from Cherokee Valley to the hamlet of Walton. Plenty of industry, as well as its lineage as a descendant of the G&D, is obvious on the plan.

The third sketch is another plan based off of the Gorre and Daphetid, the Golf Links principle, and this time a Milwuakee Road plan from the 1980's. Cherokee Valley and Russian (I would probably have used a better name if this was fleshed out) are the combined termini. Departing Russian, the train crosses one of the aisle to run above Creek, which is accessible by a branch line cutoff switch that faces against traffic. After much twisting and turning through tunnels and the mountains, the train arrives at Cherokee Valley. A minor logging concern operates at the bottom of the plan, providing a small interchange area for the local. Also, just past the crossing above Creek, is a much longer branchlike to Walton, which is a smaller township.
