I have read that TMCC and Legacy locomotives may not "play nice together" when trying to make a multiple unit consist. Are there any ways to make them more compatible? Odyssey on/off? Which unit in lead position? Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the reminder, bigdodgetrain. I did find this: "For best results use locomotives of the same type, Legacy-Legacy and TMCC-TMCC." And, "If the Legacy locomotive is in the lead, the TMCC locomotive will not move as it does not recognize 200 speed steps."
So, as sinclair says, maybe having the TMCC locomotive in the lead is best. I will try that tonight.
I could not find any comments about Odyssey, and whether having it on or off made any difference. Maybe I missed it, but I can always try both ways.
also turn the legacy loco into a TMCC mode. but they still will not run good together. best to keep TMCC and legacy separate.

I tried this already with a TMCC engine in the front and Legacy in the rear as a multiple consist. Did everything described and still could not get both engines to play nice. The TMCC engine started out faster than the Legacy. I could not turn off Odyssey as the earlier versions did not have a on/off switch. There is a way to turn it off via a cab-1 key strokes but was told if the engine did not have an on/off switch, you could do that via a cab-1.
Just getting like odyssey engines to run together can be a chore in itself and they supposedly had the same odyssey motor driver versions. Don't know where Lionel screwed this up but I've seen MTH engines like a steamer and a diesel run together like they were a married couple!
Maybe, someone will chime in and correct the fact that you can tunr odyssey off via a cab-1 key strokes, run a TMCC odyssey engine with a Legacy engine in tow. I would love to run my Conrail U30C Legacy with some of my Conrail odyssey engines!
TMCC engines in an MU seem to be hit or miss. Legacy or PS2/3 engines have no issues in an MU as a rule.

Only TMCC locos with the odyssey switch can be turned off with keystrokes via the remote. A TMCC odyssey equipped loco without out the oddyssey on/off switch, the odyssey speed control is always on.
Lionel fixed this problem with the advent of legacy, all legacy locos run at similar speeds no matter what type.
In addition, Lionel legacy locos use "backdriveable" gears which, allow a legacy loco to coast if another loco is going faster, further increasing the compatibility.
If you try, you can push and legacy loco with your hand, the wheels will turn and spin the motor,unlike TMCC locos that essentially "lock up" when they are off.
The "backdrivable" gears are also the reason, it is recommended that the TMCC loco be in the lead, as the legacy loco will "coast" behind it. This does not guarantee they will operate smoothly together, just the "recommended" way to try it.
