Use a drone to do all the work!!! If they can go down to the Titanic and pick up a dinner plate without breaking it you should be able to do whatever it is you want with a small drone.
Been there, done this, got the t-shirt. Don't over-think this and spend money on some weird junk platform doo-dad. Just do what all the grocery stores do and buy a little giant step ladder from a respected industrial supply house https://www.globalindustrial.c...m-step-ladder-3-step
Don't cheap-out. This is not the place to save money, right? The 3-step little giant is heavy and sturdy. You can stand on the top step, reach your full length and safely get to just about anything on the layout.
Step ladders are not all the same. Not even close. Most of what the big box stores sell is laterally unsafe and not rated for..ahem..the weight it must bear. This step ladder has the right stuff. I haven't tried the 4-step version. But the 3-step has been my friend since the day I started my benchwork.
