Our Train Club has an AMERICAN FLYER Layout presently in operation. Yesterday the CAB2 came up with a problem. All the Center Icon Buttons quit working. All the other Buttons on either side operate fine. We tried it on three Engines, and the same problem exists. Is it the Base or CAB2? Will take another CAB2 out next Saturday and make sure it's the CAB2. If it is, what recourse do we have ? Have to wait till August to have it repaired or replaced?? Any ideas??

It's the remote.  Mine has done the same.  Center buttons are lit, but do not function.  Given you and others have experienced it, it appears to be a manufacturer defect.  And yes, there is no service until at least August.  As long as you do not need to enter a new locomotive into the remote using those button numbers, you can limp along until Fall/Winter.

CRC, priceless!

Marty, for what it's worth, I got mine right after the version came out where it didn't need to be sent back to Lionel to be upgraded. Shortly after I started to use it some of the functions under the glass did not work, similar to this problem. They replaced the entire remote because of a manufacturing defect with the touch screen.

That's probably like mine was. Anyway, they gave me a "new" one. I think it was just a swap for one they had there because the protective plastic over the windows was replaced from being off at some time.

Manufacturer.  Manufacturing.  I was simply trying not to use the word Lionel or Legacy or the like.  I look at the center button issue as a positive, because now I know it is something I did not do, and that Lionel will likely replace it for free.  It'll work fine unless I need to enter a new locomotive address with a 2, 5 or 8, or smoke, or speed settings, or.....well OK it's kind of a pain in the butt.

Lionel has been repairing Legacy systems for free since day 1.  It has nothing to do with a perceived defect.  Mike Reagan knows that the best way to sell Legacy engines is to have a working Legacy System.

Marty,
I agree with you!  When m Legacy CAB2 went "DARK", they sent me a New One. AND that was after it was 3 Years old. I was back in Business in 8 days. Can't complain about that. The Club will just have to limp along until August!! I have (2) Cab2's, so will take one to the Club site until then!!
