Friend came over with their first Legacy engine and brand new never used Legacy system that they bought about a year ago. We left it to charge all morning. Engine modules won't load into Legacy system, comes back with some "unable to save error" message, even if you attempt to add engine manually. Engine seems to work OK with TMCC.

Forgot to note, base won't charge Cab-2 so we used brand new batteries in Cab-2. Does this need to go back? They left pretty unhappy with this issue. We need a book like Barry did for Legacy!

What Version software on both the remote and the base was it running?  What engine?  Need a little more info to go by.  Would it load any module or just that particular one.

Believe it is the 11420, a Daylight GS-2.

990 has factory 1.4 loaded in it.

Tried to manually add the engine and received the same result, it wasn't saving the information. We were surprised that on initial start up with batteries for power it  read base not found, after a search or two it found the base. Base was laying on floor, he was sitting next to it on a chair with Cab-2.

I have to ask, have you manually entered an engine before?  The procedure was correct?

I want to say, but can't remember for sure, that the GS2 might have been one of the engines with a faulty module. I did a search and saw the Mikado had blank modules shipped with them.  Did you by chance try another module?

Not finding the base the first time is not a concern.  Anytime you try for the first time there is a chance that the 2 Cab and base are on different channels.  It should be fine, if working properly, from here out.

I would try a different orange module first and see what you get. If that doesn't work, it may not hurt to re-load the software as well if you have those modules.  The worst that can happen is you have to send it back any ways.

Lionel is pretty good at turning these around.

We had run some TMCC engines with a different 990/Cab-2 before. The only other Legacy engine had access to the sound system always had the idle sounds but lost chuff & whistle both while running or on start up. Since it was right out of the box it was returned.

A friend came over with a version 1.3 set and the module seemed to load fine in it. Reset the 1.4 and module seemed to load. Is there a Cab-2 issue (?) as the last numeral of the cab number looks like a hieroglyph on the screen. Think it is worth attempting the 1.52 update and see if the issue goes away? Thanks for the help.

After reloading the modules for the base and hand held it seems the funky character is gone from the one Cab-2 unit. We were worried it was an issue with that screen. It won't pull up the Legacy engine by Locomotive number but will the TMCC ones. Since there are only a few engines, we are willing to just clear them all out when adding add 1.52 and go from there.

Lionel doesn't have 1.52 modules, had to get black modules and then that funky adapter cable. Will try to update this weekend.

Can't tell if the TMCC locos run better. (Smoother?) We have entered them as "TMCC" rather than "Cab-1" mode correct? There were some postings a while back about a better antenna. Is there a specific model to get for the 992 base? He will sometimes be in the next room.

TMCC is the preferred setting for Lionel non Legacy engines, CAB-1  is a fallback setting when TMCC doesn't work., The manual covers this.

I can  think of any reason why it will not pull up a Legacy engine over a TMCC engine

The antenna is a hit or miss, try it first, see what happens. It only affect communications between the cab-2 and the base, not the engines and the base.
