I have read several post about installing a Dallee BCR in replacement of an alkaline or NiMH Battery pack, however, I could not find anything on Lithium 9V Batteries.

Is anyone running a Lithium 9V Battery in their Legacy or TMCC locomotive? Have you had any issues or comments on using these types of batteries?

I am interested in using the Dallee BCR, but I do not think the BCR will provide enough power for the shut down sequence on most locomotives. Any comments on this as well?

Many issues regarding batteries! Even though I run conventional, IT's NO batteries as my goal. ANY battery is subject to leaking. Once leaked, the electronics and frame, etc. starts corroding and becoming destroyed. Furthurmore, for many of these locomotives it's a real pita to remove and replace the batteries to begin with. Many locos do NOT have the magnets holding the hatch, usually it's the thin plastic tabs that are easily broken and parts are difficult at best to find and repair. Why ask for trouble when you don't have to. BTW, I had used the Dallee item and found it 50/50 to work. The forumite GRJ Your Last Battery has better solid electronics and works as advertised... not to mention that Hennings is a sponsor of this forum.

If you REALLY want to make a suggestion to Lionel, they should have incorporated this circuitry in their Legacy-Railsounds electronics package anyway, esp for the current prices, just like MTH did with their PS3.0

I must admit that I'm a bit curious about this "shut down sequence" on steam locomotives. I can fully understand a "shut down sequence" on diesel units, but steam locomotives are really pretty quiet when sitting there anyway, i.e. sound of air pumps "panting", slight blower sound, and dynamo whine.

I'm much more concerned about battery leakage than ANY "shut down sequence".

The whole point of the YLB - RailSounds Battery Replacement was to ride out brief track power interruptions and to provide 10-12 seconds of operation when you shut the power off.  Of course, the another reason for developing it in the first place was to provide a battery you never had to maintain or worry about leakage with.  For conventional operators, the battery provides continuous uninterrupted sound during reverse power drops as well.  Particular attention was paid to low voltage operation so that the YLB would function properly for conventional as well as command operations.

A lithium primary battery will last longer, but being a primary battery, it will eventually discharge as well.
