Hi everybody,

I just purchased and received a real nice, no cracks 2351. Only two issues. First, in shipping the non powered truck separated from the frame. Looking at photos it appears a bolt went through the truck floor and was connected with a lock washer to the frame. Is this correct and does anyone have a part number or numbers that I can use to order spares?

The second issue concerns the basic yellow body. Looks  like cast yellow plastic to me, is that correct? Normally I use distilled water with a little ivory soap, but yellows always make me nervous. Will this work without damaging the yellow body?

Thank you and all the best,

Miketg

That is a nice engine, one of my postwar favorites. My very first trainset my dad bought in '58. It was a closeout set and the whole set (less transformer) was 35.00! The front truck is just held on with a standard e clip, if the truck is in it's original form. The body is painted yellow, not cast in yellow. Some mild Ivory soap will work without damaging the yellow paint.

Thank you Chuck,

The shell is starting to clean up nice, appears to have had a bit of nicotine residue on it. As per the non powered truck, there is no place for the clip to attach on to, just a hole. Was there some type of rivet pressed into the plate on top of the truck? This should be simple and it does not appear someone added in or modified the hole as there are no marks or signs of machining on the top plate, unless whoever may have modified it for some reason was a real pro.

All the best,

Miketg

Well, I’m a few years late to the party. Same exact thing just happened to me. I ordered a 2350 in good condition and upon arrival the dummy truck was separated from the frame. The rivet broke off from the truck around the same area as Miketg described. The little sheet metal guide was also broken clean off. I’m just going to carefully JB Weld the guide back in place and I’ve ordered a replacement rivet. My question is how do you access the interior of the truck to spread the rivet with a press? It seems the entire assembly is pressed together and not exactly serviceable.
